   A complete gem that has mostly been undiscovered. I hate to give them a good review for fear that they will become too popular, but they deserve it. It’s the kind of place where the food enters your dreams for days afterwards.

   Horrible service for high end expensive restaurant, Friday special lunch, cafe almost empty & staff milling about cleaning, dusting lamps & bottles etc & items on the bar with a swifter (small space in Pikes Place Market ) so that I could see dust particles in the air, chatting & laughing with one another & obviously unconcerned about diners. Our server unenthusiastic to say the least, glum & unsmiling & a sour puss. When I inquired about a white wine to pair with my food indicating I like dry white wines, she was not as knowledgeable as she should have been & brought me about a 4 oz or less pour of Sancerre for $18 which tasted thin & like it had been open a few days. I regret the 20% tip I left. I walk with a Walker & there was NO HELP entering the small cafe & none leaving the cafe into the crowded alley of Pikes Place Market, although there must have been 4x the staff as customers in the restaurant seating area by the door. MAJOR attitude problems at Cafe Campagne & lunch was a disappointment.

   We enjoyed our meal there. My partner had the pate de Campagne, which came with mustards, capers, and olives, as well as the Lyonnaise salad, which he enjoyed very much. I had the French onion soup, which was quite tasty, as was the beet and burrata salad. For dessert, I had the peach-ginger sorbet with a Breton cookies--both were excellent. The chocolate -cognac mousse was the only off note to our meal. It was rather grainy and not very chocolatey. That said, service was excellent. We'll be back.

   Everything about our dinner was very good, solidly good French fare. Duck confit was crispy, paté was flavorful, the onion soup contained enough cheese to make a meal, and the wine pour was generous. My wife and I will definitely return when we're in Seattle again. Several of the people around us appeared to be locals: after-work conversations. Indeed, Cafe Campagne has the feel of being a good neighborhood Parisian bistro. Nothing exceptional, except it's the kind of place where people settle in for a cozy, friendly evening. We took our time eating, but even then noticed groups who were there when we arrived and were still chatting and sipping when we left. The fact that it's unpretentiously French, but welcoming and very good value, makes it exceptional enough to return to.

    It’s our 29th wedding anniversary and we had a great time! Clayton our server was very attentive and we appreciate his great service! Will definitely come back again!
