All the sounds, aromas and flavours of Brazil are found here in North London’s Canecão, a bar and restaurant renowned for its lively atmosphere and some of the best cocktails in the capital. Located equidistant from Camden and Islington, the bar attracts a real mixed bag of customers, from the young and fashionable to the after workers and a good handful of Brazilian ex-pats seeking a taste of home. Little has been done to Canecão’s décor to set it apart from the typical London boozer, so it says a lot for the atmosphere that the space feels so vibrantly authentic no matter the time of year or time of day. Extremely affordable, the Canecão menu is surprisingly sophisticated with, it goes without saying, plenty of exotic flair. All of the food on offer is typical of a Rio restaurant, from the seafood stews to the sweet, homely desserts. A highlight of any evening at Canecão is the cocktail list, a rum-centric collection of party time favourites.
If you go to Canecao not expecting much you will be satisfied. Brazilian dishes were authentic and fairly well prepared, cocktails good and reasonably priced. It was dead on a Tues night, but didnt stop us having a good time. Had been previously at a weekend when it was very lively. No frills type of place, toilets are not that nice, but I have been twice now and will be going back.

This is a laid-back, casual joint- looks like your neighborhood public house.
They serve a fine pubby mix of Brazilian and Italian food, with a dash of British standards. We got the steak. Next time I might focus on the bar snack menu instead, ordering a smattering of the great-looking Brazilian nibbles.
