Owner John Conrad met his wife Walailak in Thailand, where she was born and raised. John lived and worked in Thailand for 5 yrs and adored the experience. He looked for a way to bring an authentic Thai cultural experience back to America.That’s how Sawasdee was born: as a restaurant that combines authentic Thai cuisine with modern dining. The newest addition to the Restaurant Collection at SIMON Roosevelt Field mall, Nomiya — which translates to ‘saloon’ — stands as the area’s first izakaya. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of minimalism, the interior of Nomiya is split between a hickory-accented bar and windowed dining room framed by black granite walls. Guests can pair their meal with one of the eleven premium bottles of sake listed on the menu, such as the unfiltered, cream-colored Yuki Tora Snow Tiger nigori or bright, effervescent Uka Junmai Daiginjo; or opt for a refreshing cocktail made with soju – the national drink of Korea which is commonly distilled from potato. Also available are housemade sodas flavored with either lychee, yuzu, or mandarin, and imported wine and beer selections.

We had a fabulous birthday dinner at the Lotus last night. The great part about it was that we were able to mix having Chinese food, but also had a few sushi rolls. The food was fresh and the staff were so attentive. Can’t wait for the next trip back.

The food was definitely tasty and large portions. Everything was hot and fresh, and the drinks were on point! I do think the ambiance and flashy style shown on social media is geared more towards the sushi items so i wish there was a bit more showmanship with the other meals. The servers weren’t very personable and rushed everything, with only a 2 minute gap between the appetizer and entree.. still great food!
