A Classic French Bistro in the heart of Edison Park has been a dream of Executive Chef and owner Joe Calabrese for several years. Joe was professionally trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park, New York. Before opening his other restaurant, Zia’s Trattoria (located one block west of Café Touché at 6699 N. Northwest Highway) in 1997, he was sharpening his professional – and knife – skills at several well-respected Chicago dining establishments including Ambria, Spiagia, Un Grand Cafe and the Park Hyatt. After spending a lot of time in the area, we had notice that our love of South American food was not only underrepresented but nearly nonexistent. There are some wonderful restaurants in the area, but none that offer authentic food from the southern continent. We made it our mission to create a menu that not only introduces this cuisine to the locals but give the South American population in the area a taste of home. We made sure to use authentic and fresh ingredients, sometimes with a little artistic license, and create dishes not from one country but many. Food was fantastic! We had chicken breast and the beef agnolotti, both were great. Focaccia was delicious. I had the 203tini (espresso martini) and it was so espresso and chocolate heavy- in a good way. Our server was pleasant. The restaurant was very quiet and intimate. We were happy we chose it.

Dining experience at The Little Gem was excellent. Service was smooth and appetizers and entrees were spaced nicely. We were a party of six and everything was seamless. Good menu choices and excellent preparation.

Had a great dinner. The French onion soup was delicious. So often this type of soup is very salty. This one was seasoned perfectly. The burger was juicy and delicious. Definitely want to return. My only criticism is on a rainy evening, it wasn't clear where one could park. We wound up finding a spot on Randolph. If most of the clientele are taking an Uber, then I guess it doesn't matter. For suburbanites, it's a good thing we know the city.
