A Classic French Bistro in the heart of Edison Park has been a dream of Executive Chef and owner Joe Calabrese for several years. Joe was professionally trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park, New York. Before opening his other restaurant, Zia’s Trattoria (located one block west of Café Touché at 6699 N. Northwest Highway) in 1997, he was sharpening his professional – and knife – skills at several well-respected Chicago dining establishments including Ambria, Spiagia, Un Grand Cafe and the Park Hyatt. Joe lives in Park Ridge, a few short miles from the restaurants, so expet to see him in both restaurants assuring a quality experience for his customers. Aboyer (ab-wah-yay), meaning, “to bark,” is a French-American brasserie as imagined by Chef Michael Lachowicz. Aboyer wakes up the senses with a sexy, energetic vibe. Refined French pub-grub served alongside craft cocktails & wine in the contemporary space exudes a nouveau-bistro style. Located in the heart of Chicago's North Shore, the menu features starters such as Potato & Truffle Soup, Charcuterie, and Rabbit & Sage Sausage to main courses including Coq au Vin, Cassoulet, Faroe Island Salmon and more. Reservations are recommended; walk-ins are welcome. Aboyer requires a credit card to secure all reservations.     It’s crazy to think there are only three of these restaurants left in the world. We used to go to the Oak Brook location but now we finally got to visit the one in Chicago. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that this was the original one. It’s a classic French bistro fare with amazing servers and food. I highly recommend the steak and frites!  make sure to get your reservation early because we had to dine at 4:45 PM due to later dinner times not being available

    The dishes on the brunch menu were all delicious, the service was excellent, and we loved the ambiance of the historic 'ice skating warming house' building. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

    Love La Serre! Valet guys are great. Hosts are welcoming. Excellent food and service every time. whether in dining room or at the bar. George at the bar is awesome. Craft cocktails are pretty and tasty. I appreciate the complimentary hot bread that you often can’t get anymore. The tuna Crudo is the best I’ve ever had in my life. Highly recommend! I would love to eat that every day and I would love to know the sauce that it is swimming in because it is absolutely incredible!!! The escargot is good, nice garlicky sauce and I appreciate they give you bread for dipping. Love the apple kale salad with feta cheese. Generous portion, tastes Perfect! I’ve enjoyed many entrées at previous visits which were all fantastic, as well. The pasta with lemony clam sauce is delicious. (Wanna try the bacon pasta next time). Can’t go wrong with pretty much anything there. Re desserts: LOVE the bruleed French toast.and the bread pudding - both with gelato. A cappuccino to end the night. ALL fantastic! ! Only thing I’d change: for tables of 2, one has to look at the booth wall. Maybe consider repositioning tables (and yes I know many Restos have same problem) or angle mirror above booth side so regardless of seat, all diners can see the beautiful lively room.

    Aboyer (previously Restaurant Michael) has been one of our favorite north shore spots to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. My husband and I have been following Chef Michael all around the Chicago area for decades now, and although the amazing food has been the key reason, we have always been impressed by his professionally trained staff, who are friendly, knowledgeable and pay attention to details. On this visit, we were celebrating my birthday (2 months late) since we cancelled the first reservation when Covid hit us, and the aftereffects stayed around far too long. The evening here was well worth the wait! After stopping at the bar for a quick hello to Sergio and a Champagne (for me) and a Chardonnay we settled in to the cozy banquette for dinner. We ordered our standard starter, the delectable Gougères, a mainstay that we hope never goes away. I switched to a rich Aviary Napa Cabernet for the rest of the dinner. We were delighted to have Sergio Junior as our server! He obviously enjoys his job and is a real ambassador for the restaurant. We took his recommendations for our entrees, and both were fantastic! I never order pork, and rarely make it at home, except for a roast. The Peppercorn Crusted Berkshire Pork Rib Chop with Cognac Mushroom Sauce was by far the best pork I have ever had. Happy Birthday to me. My husband’s decadently delicious Aboyer Burger was an unexpected item for him to order here, except for how much he loved it. Thank you from both of us, SJ!!! Last night was well worth waiting for. ♥️♥️
