Restauranteur Shawn Virene put the POP into Houston with his wildly successful a’Bouzy. This champagne-fueled spot located in the tony River Oaks neighborhood of town attracts a stylish crowd all day. The bar is always bustling and the patio echoes with the cry – “a Bouzy!” every time a bottle is sabered tableside. In fact, most tables will have multiple wine buckets close by, keeping the bubbly cool. The fresh, ripe American menu features seasonal seafood, salads, small-shareable plates, large raw bar and prime meats. The wine list curated by Virene, is both the best-priced on bubbly and wines in the city.     We visit many restaurants around the country and Annabelle has suddenly made it to my hometown favorites list. We tried the deviled eggs, raclette au jambon, Parisienne steak frites, duck confit cassoulet, macaroni gratin, and potato aligoté, finished with crème brûlée and espresso. All of which met our standards and we will be returning. Happy and full the spot brings warmth, feeling like I’m in my grandmothers living room (in a good - homey way). Drinks also were good but don’t remember what was ordered. If you are coming here, order a lot very freely; the pricing is very reasonable anyway.

    We visited on Christmas Eve at lunch and enjoyed a nice meal served by Carlos Sabogal. Carlos was knowledgeable and helpful with selections, with everything from champagne to appetizers and mains. We had a great meal, well worth the drive of 3 1/2 hours from Wimberley.
