Located minutes from Essex Steam Train, Rt. 9, and I-95, guests can kick back with a drink and some wings in our newly renovated upstairs bar, redesigned in a modern vintage industrial style while maintaining the original bar from Oliver’s Tavern. The bar, retrofitted for additional space, was originally built in 1913 for a bar in Chicago where Al Capone is rumored to have regularly tipped a glass.

The Wine Bar at The Griswold Inn is an extraordinary space in which to enjoy a delicious experience in every respect. Avery was an attentive waitress and a pleasant individual. She helped make the experience more enjoyable. The clam chowder is an excellent appetizer, the roast beef expertly prepared. This is one of our favorite restaurants.

We had the 7 course chef’s experience with wine pairing. Absolutely outstanding! The first course was unbelievably delicious. Yet somehow each course got even better. Wine selection was beautifully paired. Waiter was attentive and very helpful with descriptions. Loved our experience.

Due to the size of the room, I think, the tea was very loud and was kind of a bummer for that type of event. The tea was cold a bit, so that was a bummer too. But overall it was a nice experience.
