Restauranteur Shawn Virene put the POP into Houston with his wildly successful a’Bouzy. This champagne-fueled spot located in the tony River Oaks neighborhood of town attracts a stylish crowd all day. The bar is always bustling and the patio echoes with the cry – “a Bouzy!” every time a bottle is sabered tableside. In fact, most tables will have multiple wine buckets close by, keeping the bubbly cool. The fresh, ripe American menu features seasonal seafood, salads, small-shareable plates, large raw bar and prime meats. We had chargrilled oyster, tuna n’djula, veal parmigiana, lasagna, bucatini amatriciana, eggplant parmigiana, Lee’s chocolate cake. Loved all but the lasagna. Previously had pasta bolognese which was also very good.

Great neighborhood restaurant in a good location. The service was impeccable including the employees who helped with my elderly mother and her walker. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. The food was fabulous and dishes were made with imagination, for example the brussels sprout salad. Excellent. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Houston.

Everything about our dining experience tonight was spectacular. The food, service, staff were great. The duck confit was delicious. As were the scallops on the half shell and the grilled octopus ceviche. It’s one of our favorite restaurants. We haven’t been there in a while but will be back again soon. It’s worth it for a special evening!

We visited on Christmas Eve at lunch and enjoyed a nice meal served by Carlos Sabogal. Carlos was knowledgeable and helpful with selections, with everything from champagne to appetizers and mains. We had a great meal, well worth the drive of 3 1/2 hours from Wimberley.
