Ugly Butterfly, located in the iconic Carbis Bay, just a mile from St Ives in Cornwall, opened in August 2021. In keeping with Adam’s ethos, there’s a strong focus on sustainability.There’s no such thing as an Ugly Butterfly, in the same way as there’s no such thing as food waste.The restaurant and bar offers a relaxed experience, with surreal surroundings. We are lucky tohave one of the most beautiful views of the Cornish coast, overlooking the ocean so that guests canwatch the dolphins and seals. The sound of the ocean and the innovative utilisation of our localingredients makes guests forget they’re even in the UK.Our afternoon tea experience takes guests on a journey around Cornwall, celebrating thebest of Cornish produce. The Halsetown inn a rural grade 2 listed roadside inn situated just outside st ives on the main road between penzance and St ives. at the Halsetown we have core values good food good beer good ambience steeped in local history great for lunch or evening meal after a day out exploring.we pride ourselves on using all locally sourced produce.our Chefs Darren and Danny have worked alongside each other creating dishes and memories for the past 3 years a great partnership.they love cooking dishes especially fish dishes as being so close to the sea why notwe are in between Penzance and so close to St ives if you like walking its just 2 miles away.Halsetown was once a thriving tin mine community lots of local history the atmosphere is very laid back with great food washed down with a great ale or glass of wine we also have a little haven at the back of our pub a courtyard a nice sun trap on an afternoon or early evening

    This cafe is turning out phenomenal dishes that truly celebrate the ingredients - even the chips - which are heavenly earthy, piping hot and flavourful. I started with roast sardines with a smattering of finely chopped garlic and I was wondering if the garlic might overpower the natural tangyness of these flawless fish. Not a bit! The balance was perfect and the flavours just sang in the mouth. I loved the starter choices so much that I ordered another for my main which I had with the heavenly chips. Blue cheese and pears with Parma ham. Incredible! Just the right amount of each ingredient. Yes! I scraped the plate. Finally, I finished with apple crumble tart with clotted cream. The pleasantly acidic pool of berries calmed the natural, perfectly pitched sweetness of the apple tart. I would have preferred a small jug of custard but hey, we’re in Cornwall so the clotted cream sat beautifully on top and gave the dish a velvety texture. Staff were warm, friendly and knowledgeable. I had a large bottle of fizzy water and my bill was around £40. The price reflects the quality of ingredients which were top notch.

    We go to the Porthminster cafe around times a year travelling from Paignton using the railway as a, relaxing day out and the restaurant has never disappointed. We had the set lunch menu costing £34 each. I had the Smoked baked Haddock for starters and the Turbot with Sampfire for mains whilst my Wife had Asian Crispy Beef with Hand Rolled Riccotta for Mains and we both had A Chocolate Brownie with Pink Peppercorns for Dessert. What totally, As always, Made the meal was the excellent service and the stunning views of the beach. Cant wait to rett

    We are regular diners at The Ugly Butterfly however due to illness, had not been able to go for a few months so it was wonderful to 'be back' and we had a wonderful time. Amazing food, fantastic service with the most beautiful view too. Asked what our favourite dish of the way was, impossible to say as it was all excellent.
