Growing up in Italy, my family cooked at home and had the most extraordinary experiences with ingredients grown in our backyard, paired with the wines my chef/restaurateur stepfather would bring back from regions throughout Italy. I fell in love with food as a child watching my stepfather, once nominated a top chef in Italy, work in restaurant kitchens and floors. Moving to California in 1991 and subsequently to Santa Monica and experiencing the Farmers Market inspired me to start Orto - Italian for “vegetable garden” - where I meld local ingredients and organic herbs grown here at the restaurant to create traditional Italian recipes. My first time at this restaurant. Went on Christmas Eve. Service was excellent. Nice ambience . A very special evening as everything exceeded our expectations. Great bar selection. Delicious appetizers. Surprising flavors were unexpectedly delicious. Seabass and salmon were delectable. And the risotto -so creamy and flavorful. Be sure to leave room for dessert as well. This is billed as an Indian restaurant, and while there are many dishes that are Indian, there are many more that will surprise and delight you with their originality. Restaurant has been open less that a month and there were no shortcomings. I cant wait to return and try more dishes.

This place is terrific! Very quaint and lovely ambience… The food was terrific! Especially the chicken scallopini alimony, which was delicious! Everything was wonderful and the owner is very charming and provided great service! Strongly recommend this place especially for locals!

Food was outstanding, server was very friendly and made us feel comfortable. Food came out quickly and tasted delicious. The hostess were awful. We had a reservation and they seated at least 3 parties ahead of us and made us wait for over half an hour.
