Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

Our stunning restaurant overlooks Pegwell Bay and includes alfresco dining on our sundeck terrace. We offer all day dining from an extensive menu of meat choices, fish dishes, sharing platters and delicious homemade desserts. All food is home cooked and has substantial portion sizes. We cater for all dietary requirement.Our stunning Sunday roast is served from 12pm till 4pm.Our menu is available in the bar and restaurant, the restaurant offering table service and the bar offers a non-reservable first come, first serve where you can enjoy a drink or dine with your dogs. The Bridge Arms is nestled within the beautiful rural village of Bridge situated within the Nailbourne Valley 2.5km South of the cathedral city of Canterbury. Originally a coaching inn, The Bridge Arms dates back to the 16th century, once a baiting house the grade II listed pub boasts large original fireplaces for the winter months and sparse outside garden with outside bar for the warmer summer months.This iconic pub has undergone a transformation under the new ownership of Daniel and Natasha Smith (owners of The Michelin Starred Fordwich Arms) in 2021, restoring the pub to its former glory. The menu concept created by Daniel & Natasha uses seasonal produce to support our local suppliers and to accommodate guests looking for a family friendly pub while highlighting the best British produce. Within 9 months of opening The Bridge Arms was also awarded a Michelin Star as well as being listed in the top 100 restaurant awards.

The Michelin Starred, Fordwich Arms, located in the smallest town in England, dates as far back as 1828. Draped in ivory and wisteria in the most picturesque location over looking the Great River Stour, the perfect setting for an idyllic summers lunch. Boasting open fireplaces for the colder winter months, creating a cosy and welcoming ambiance. Daniel and Natasha Smith took over The Fordwich Arms in 2017 and were awarded a Michelin Star within the first year, as well as being in the top 100 gastro pubs in the UK, multiple culinary awards, notable wine awards and various other accredits, a testament to their hair work and talent. The seasonal menus focus on provenance, showcasing the best of local Kentish ingredients, sourced directly from local farms and producers.     We arrived on time, had a very warm welcome, our coats were taken care of and we were shown to a lovely table, which had been set with a white table cloth, a white starched napkin, fresh flowers and a candle - a great start to an evening out. Our server was great at looking after us, she was engaging in short and friendly conversation, she was very much on the ball at checking in that we had everything we wanted and making sure that we were happy with each course. We had ordered the seafood and fish papardelle starter, which was very tasty but it had a lot of cheese on it that had not been mentioned at all in the menu description. We would have preferred to know that. As a main course, we had ordered Steamed Turbot with Citrus Fruits, Olive Oil and White Asparagus, it was a delicious, well-balanced and original combination. The other main course was a Grilled Pork Chop with Chick Peas, Aioli & Turnip Tops, which was a very unusual dish but very much enjoyed for its rich flavour combinations and the most beautifully grilled pork, which was delicious and tender, as well as attractive on the plate. For dessert, we had opted for the Sherry Trifle with Rhubarb and the Vanilla Pannacotta with Blood Orange & Grappa. The pannacotta was one of the best I have ever had for flavour. The trifle could have benefited from more rhubarb. The Chardonnay (Campo Fiorito) served with the pork chop was a great choice, perfectly chilled. The music played might not be to everybody’s taste for a dining experience. Overall, the service was excellent, the food was delicious, we had a very enjoyable evening and will book again. Thanks to the whole team.

    It would be unfair to comment further. We were the only diners in the restaurant and, although everything was fine or better, we hope that the venue is normally busier than on our visit. Only then would it be possible to comment in detail.
