   Excellent food and drink in an atmospheric period setting. It is so steeped in history that if Guy Fawkes himself walked in and ordered a meal, no one bat an eyelid.

   Bea, who looked after us at our table was very friendly, helpful & hospitable. The place was great. Dark corners for the platters. Moody but ambient. Nice table I'm the corner. The pies were fab & chips damned good. Service was impeccable. Real ales. A hearty dinner. Great food. Brilliant service. Recommend it as a place to eat any day if the week. Well done.

   couldn’t fault the food. service was below standard. we booked, got there early. sat down. ordered and to be fair they said it would take 30 minutes for the main course which was their fantastic steak pie. it took 40 minutes and nobody updated us. My wife and I were chatting over a bottle of red so kind of ignited the fact. the lie was great. One of the waitresses then and hour and half in told us we needed to vacate the table. we hadn’t ordered dessert. we were told that we could sit in the front parlour and finish our wine. There was no space despite being told there was. we finished our wine in the bar and left. Disappointed to be treated like this. we were never advised that we had a time limit on the table. An offer of a little something would have toned down our disappointment. Despite the excellent pie it ruined the ambiance. We’re never going back.

   Food was excellent apart from 1 thing . Please let me put my own salt on my chips 🤷‍♂️ service was extremely efficient and polite . Would definitely come back again . Thank you

   We visit York every year and always go to Guy Fawkes Inn for its, once legendary, steak and ale pie. Unfortunately on this visit we noticed straight away by the shape, small size and presentation, that the pie had changed. Upon eating it we were very disappointed, the taste was more of a sweet red wine, than ale, there was an ingredient that was a bit overbearing in the flavour too. The pastry didn’t have that crunch like it used to have, its was more stodgy. The original steak and ale pie was much nicer. Apart from that the service was great and the desserts were very good.

   A wonderful place. Atmospheric, friendly staff and sublime food. We celebrated my daughter's birthday as a surprise for her and I couldn't have wished for a better experience ❤️
