                          Food quality excellent, however the overpowering incense coupled with no air flow made me feel very unwell. Waiter was visibly upset we asked for the taste of hakkasan set menu, having specifically booked this and then trying to be upsold. Chefs did an excellent job though.

                          Service levels still very poor here. Hardly ever anyone at the cloak room (my girlfriend had to go in to get our coats herself), ordered the signature menu when booking but had to ask to get it brought to us, waiter disappeared for long periods of time and we had to go and search for him at one point. Food still very though.

                          Spectacular!! Excellent gourmet Chinese food. Great service. Fantastic presentation. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion.

                          Hakkasan Mayfair is where the food is still top-notch, but the atmosphere has taken a turn. What was once a refined experience is now trying to cater to the masses. Some people didn’t even bother to dress for the occasion turning up in baggy jeans and T-shirt more suited for KFC than a top tier restaurant. Since my last visit, they’ve clearly made an effort to attract everyone with the introduction of cheaper set menus. While the food remains great, it’s hard to ignore the new crowd. The ambiance that once felt exclusive and sophisticated? Gone. The lychee martinis? Absolutely perfect. But a peach Bellini was a complete disaster. The bartender, sadly, had no idea how to make one, and I was too polite to send it back so that was a complete waste of £18. Also, it was my husband’s birthday which I mentioned in the booking. No acknowledgment which felt impersonal especially when dropping £400 on the meal. In summary, while the restaurant still serves some of the best Chinese food around. It’s no longer the place I remember. If you want amazing food without the surrounding circus, though, you might just want to consider some other options.
