Highlander Bar & Grill is just 20 miles from downtown Helena, across Canyon Ferry Dam at the Norwegian Wood Ranch. Excellent dining in a casual setting, and featuring Executive Chef Giovanni Rios, this locally cherished restaurant is a culinary destination with dishes inspired by the natural beauty of Montana. The finely tuned menu features a stellar selection of hand-cut, juicy steaks, fresh fish from Ocean Beauty, delicious pasta dishes and local produce as well as spot-on seasonal tastings for lunch, dinner and Sunday Brunch. Experience hand-crafted cocktails in our cozy western bar and savor outdoor seating along Magpie Creek in the summer months; enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Come for a round of golf on our unique 9-hole par-3 course and stay in our boho-western glamping tents or cabin. Be sure to visit our our Highlander cows, Rosie and Marilyn. Friendly staff, delicious food, reasonably priced. Probably the best dining you'll find in and around Helena. I would definitely recommend the Highlander if your looking for a good meal!

Overpriced: Shrimp & Scallop dish $32. Comes in a deep bowl that is only filled at the bottom. This was a surprise. We thought they had run out of plates! It was weird. There were a handful of scallops and maybe 2 shrimp, mostly mashed potatoes, and some gravy on top. It was good, but nothing special and very overpriced for what you got. 3 of us ordered this dish. We all felt the same way. They charge for soft drink refills. Just be aware. Most places don't, but they are $2.50 per refill here. Terrible Service: It took well over an hour to get our food. No updates or check-ins by the waitstaff. Food Quality: See above for shrimp & scallops. My husband had the root vegetable salad and said it was very saucy and didn't taste too good. He also had the empanada appetizer which he said was good. Overall: As much as we love to support our local businesses, we won't be back. This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner for my husband and instead it was an overpriced disappointment. We have been in the past and it was quite good. This was our first time with new owners and we were not impressed.

Fantastic Food. Best meal in Helena! Little long between salad and meal but we were there for birthday so it was a party with great company. Will definitely be going back!!!

A hidden treasure out on the East side of Canyon Ferry, the Highlander Bar & Grill never fails to excel! Superb food and service are the standard. The steaks are exceptional. Just had the scallops and shrimp. Served in a bowl with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, it was the best I’ve ever had. The sauce was amazing and it was so huge I had another complete meal the next day for lunch! Looking forward to next Wednesday’s dinner with wine pairing!

We love this place for dinners and at our last dinner they mentioned their brunch. Their Caesar’s are very good and when they said loaded Caesar’s at their brunch with shrimp and bacon we decided to try it. Sadly there wasn’t shrimp with ours, still charged for it The breakfast took over an hour and then wasn’t hot and we were out of time to send it back. They did have a very large function the night before that sounded like it went very late. We will go back for dinners but not for Sunday brunch.

Everything was perfect food, service, beverages, and the location is a beautiful area that we are neighbors to, so location is a bonus for us. This is a special place for us all memories we have created here with family, friends, and neighbors are outstanding. We will continue to be summertime regulars.
