The Whistling Bird in Gilbert, Minnesota might be in the Iron Range, but once you step inside, you�ll feel like you�re in the Caribbean. There are umbrellas, wooden parrots, plenty of bright colors and strings of lights hanging from the walls and ceilings. The menu at The Whistling Bird is similarly tropical. For an appetizer, you can have the fried plantains, chips with tropical fruit salsa, red curry mussels or the mahi mahi fingers. There are numerous Jamaican jerk dishes on the menu, too. Betty's Pies, in Two Harbors, is a renowned bakery and restaurant serving delectable homemade fare in its casual and friendly eatery. Scrumptious lunch and dinner entrées include the chicken pastie with root vegetables and cheddar cheese stuffed in a savory pastry, the north star tacos breaded fish filets with kimchi slaw and the beargrease burger with pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions and chipotle mayo. Situated inside the Main Lodge, Splashing Rock Restaurant is open all year long. The weekday menu here changes with the seasons. However, standbys like the filet mignon steak, fettuccine alfredo with chicken and roasted breast of duck are always available. If you like seafood from the North, Splashing Rock Restaurant has an incredible Canadian cold-water walleye. You can have it prepared in the pan or broiled. It comes with the vegetable of the day and a side of rice pilaf.

Enjoyed our meal very much! Plenty of food! Service was good and wait staff were very friendly and personable. Would have loved to have sat outside on the balcony, but the weather did not permit that.
