The Black Bull Inn, Moffat is an independently owned, award winning Scottish hostelry, established 1568. The oldest hostelry in the area, the Inn is well known for its links to Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet who visited during his heyday. The Black Bull is also connected to another notable character from history – the controversial Earl (Bonnie) of Dundee, who commandeered the Black Bull as HQ in the 17th century and oversaw the persecution of Scottish Presbyterians from within its walls. After a complete refurb they opened the doors on the 14th August 2020.Head Chef, Dan, & his young, eager team use the finest ingredients available using local butchers, suppliers and even forage in the nearby woodland. During the shooting season we source game from the local shoot which features on our specials board.Situated on the Northumberland and Cumbrian border, with Hadrian's wall on our doorstep, the hotel offers a cosy drinking area with locally sourced ale, a chic restaurant serving homemade classic pub food with a modern twist and 7 newly refurbished dog friendly en-suite guest bedrooms, alongside a 45 bed Hostel, providing the perfect base for your trip.

As ever, excellent food and excellent customer service. Love the ambience here. No pressure and relaxed whilst being attentive. I travel over an hour to get here and have introduced friends, who themselves have returned and spread the love! What a marvellous place. Whiskey gift shop (and other goodies) a must and staff in the gift shop so helpful and full of advice. Thank you.

Superb experience with Michelin level cooking at pre award pricing. Very difficult to find this level outwith a major city and I would say this is now a destination restaurant. The head chef is very capable and has an impeccable cv which shows. The serving staff are charming and knowledgable without being overpowering which is surprisingly rare but very welcome.
