Here at The Cricketers, we are the perfect retreat to sit back, relax and indulge in our delicious food with the perfect drink in hand. Situated at the foot of Hambledon Hill, home of an Iron Age hill fort, and just off the Wessex Ridgeway footpath, a right of way passes right through our garden, making it a delightful spot for walkers to rest and enjoy some well-earned refreshments! Here at the Cricketers, we see ourselves as being a real village pub - delicious food, a great selection of drinks and the warmest of welcomes. Well behaved dogs are even welcome in the bar area!

Pythouse Kitchen Garden is a lunchtime destination only at present.Head chef Darren Broom's passion lies in producing food with an unmistakable sense of terroir. AA Accredited - COVID-19 ConfidentWe are not a ‘fancy pants’ establishment. Not in the least. We offer good quality, home-cooked, locally sourced (where possible) food. 90% of our menu is made on the premises. Certainly not ‘Pub Grub’ but not ‘Gastro Pub’ either. It’s good value for money. However, our standards are high, very high. Not only in the quality of the food that comes into and leaves the kitchen but also in the presentation, the delivery to the table and overall customer service. We’re definitely not ‘Silver Service’ either but all of our staff are attentive, smartly dressed and will always go that extra mile wherever they can. These are just some of the reasons we were awarded the Taste of the West GOLD award in 2019. We are a dog friendly establishment, very dog friendly. However, please tell us at the time of booking so that we can place you in our Bar area , as opposed to our Restaurant.

We aim to make everyone feel welcome, whatever their preferences. Our seasonal menu includes vegetarian and vegan options and we cater for all dietary requirements. As parents, owners Hannah and Mo appreciate the importance of including children around the table and offer young guests a smaller portion of many of our main menu dishes.We are open all day *Tuesday through to Sunday, and always have something to eat on offer but to avoid disappointment please note our key timings: Tuesday-Saturday: Breakfast is served from 9am - 11am, Lunch from 12 mid-day to 2.30pm, then Dinner (including our new Children’s Menu) from 5.30pm with last orders by 9pm. On Sundays we serve Brunch from 9am until 11am and then a Roast Lunch from 12.00 midday until last orders at 3pm. In between those times we offer our famous sausage rolls, scotch eggs, olives, pastries and cakes (subject to availability) as well as a full bar offering, non-alcoholic drinks, smoothies and hot drinks.

    We went in at midday. We were seated really quickly. The table was a little snug but still very nice. Met two lovely lady's on the next table . The service was amazing as always and the food was delicious as always. The dessert was really great. Came away really full. The price was very good.

    This is the third time I have been to Nest and I absolutely love what you guys are doing. Was there on a date, we could comfortably talk without thinking anyone would overhear our conversation, perfect ambience, it's like you have walked into a friend's place. We had lots of small plates (tapas style) and the food is just fabulous, top flavours. Happily worth every penny as the whole experience is lush.....wishing the team at Nest continued success, it's great to have such a restaurant in shaftsbury x

    Always a warm welcome here at the Cricketers! The lunchtime menu is good with special mention for the burger and ham, egg and chips. Timothy Taylor Landlord seems to be a permanent option and it is very rare to encounter it this far south in the country and all the more of a pleasure to enjoy one of the UK’s finest ales.
