Since 1968 the Sakalis Family right from the start offered The Greek Community a taste of Greece by offering authentic Greek pastries in their bakery section representing various parts of Greece. George Sakalis and Antigoni Sakalis come from families of top chefs/bakers specializing in traditional baking and authentic Greek/Mediterranean Cuisine. It's no wonder their talents have created Astoria's hidden gem. The Sakalis Family recently opened the Café-Restaurant, Victory Garden Café, which offers an even larger selection of Greek specialties. The newly renovated space provides an ambiance that will leave you breathless! All menu items are made on premises and include a wide range of seafood & meat dishes. Amazing European decor with available indoor and outdoor spaces conveniently located in the heart of Astoria. 83 ½ is best described as a labor of love. A love of a family, friends and most importantly, food. Chef Vincenzo Mangiafridda, a twenty-year restaurant veteran of the Upper East Side, wanted to open a restaurant that spoke to his deep Sicilian roots. In 83 1/2, his vision has become reality. He created a menu of memorable Italian dishes including silky pastas, inventive antipasti, and delicious entrees. Above all, it’s Vincenzo’s love of people that makes 83 ½ what it is: a warm, welcoming place where friends and families share their passion for food and familiar faces.
