Nestled on the waterfront in Irvington, New York, Red Hat on the River is an American modern bistro serving satisfied diners since 2003. There's hardly a seat in the house that does not offer a spectacular view of the Hudson river. Banquettes and a pewter bar accent the space while the walls of this 100-year old renovated factory building are adorned with WPA-era art evoking a feeling of a turn of the century Parisian bistro. Evolving from a humble bistro on main street to a bustling restaurant on the river with a rooftop bar, Red Hat's commitment to providing the very best experience for their guests has always remained the same. Try the classic menu standards of steak frites, moules frites, country terrine, and the Red Hat burger. Seasonal salads, sandwiches, and seafood entrees round out the menu.     We had the most beautiful dinner at Oceanos last night to celebrate my birthday. Appreciate the parking lot has van accessible parking! We were greeted by upbeat host who sat us thoughtfully. The setting is elegant, with lovely decor annd lighting and low key music. Our waiter Matthew was a professional, funny and highly observant server. We had great cocktails including pear twist and lemon drop both deftly prepared. They served lovely fresh warm bread and olives with cocktails. The Calamari were generous pieces lightly fried with tasty Thai dip and the tuna stack with avocado was fresh and very prettily arrayed, like artwork. Our fish entrees were absolutely scrumptious. The sole was perfectly filleted with yummy lemon potatoes. Swordfish was a very tasty meaty steak carefully prepared. The sea bass was delicate with hint of brine. All was the freshest fish, most beautifully prepared. Timing was unhurried and thoughtful. Matthew must have heard us talking about it being my birthday and brought us a gorgeous birthday dessert, flanked with the most wonderful delicate Greek cookies. This was simply a perfect dinner and we are already planning our next visit. One of the hosts came by the table several times to make sure our dinner was going well. Thank you to owners, manager and all the wonderful team in the kitchen, front and back of the house for a wonderful evening.

    We had a wonderful lunch sitting near the gorgeous windows overlooking the Hudson. The wait staff were courteous and friendly and attentive. We had that days soup and sandwich special. The squash soup was delicious and served in a mug, so you didn't miss a drop. The grilled chicken sandwich with arugala and asiago cheese on a grilled baguette was really tasty.

    All good, food, service drinks. It got a bit loud at the end of our dinner but it was trivia night so o guess that’s to be expected.
