The Plough isn't your average countryside pub. Sitting on a quiet lane in a quintessentially English village, The Plough was set to be sold off the developers when 120 members of the community came together to invest, and save, their local. After its purchase and renovation, the Yates family took over the kitchen and opened the pub's small, but proud, restaurant, Bowleys. Head Chef Alex Yates is still very early on in his career but though only in his early twenties, he has already spent two years in the kitchens at The Goring Hotel in London, as well as having gained experience with Rick Stein and even once cooking for the Queen. Bowleys menus have a traditional feel and adhere to classic, English fare with a fine dining twist. There are several options to choose between including a tasting menu, set lunch, a la carte, brunch and Sunday lunch. The tasting menu is the jewel in Bowleys crown and consists of five courses, with an optional sixth.

In addition to the food, we offer a selection of fine wines, quirky cocktails, and have a collection of over 25 craft gins available.World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon lived in Matfield and is the inspiration behind our name. Sassoon was awarded the Military Cross for "conspicuous gallantry" and later won acclaim for his writing. As well as intimate and cosy meals for couples or small groups, we are also a noted venue for group bookings, including cocktail classes, birthdays, hen parties, and weddings - all of which may be combined with a two/three-course meal, buffet, or something more bespoke. Once a month we host the Oliver's bottomless brunch, with option to upgrade to bottomless cocktails. These are always popular and we recommend booking well in advance.For any bookings over 20 people we are happy to open our restaurant on a Monday - Wednesday - Please contact us direct for more information.On Fridays and Saturdays, the bar and dance floor area turns into a club setting from 9pm - please consider this when booking late tables in the restaurant.

Situated in the beautiful grounds of Wildernesse House is the Pavilion restaurant. Our chef prepares delicious dishes with an emphasis on fresh and seasonal produce. When booking a table in the evening, please be aware that we are a residential home and as such we ask that guests depart the restaurant by 09:00pm and have consideration for our neighbor's when leaving.Please be aware when visiting that there is a security gate on entry, the code for which is written on the gate, you will need to exit your vehicle to input the code. You will find the Pavilion restaurant next to the main house, opposite the Mews Houses. Ample parking available.Please be aware that our disabled lift is currently out of order. If you require disabled access please notify us ahead of time and we can advise the best place to park.

From cocktails to coffee excellent food and service. The chefs surpass anything you could imagine and all of the staff are friendly fun and attentive. Couldn't recommend a better place to spend an evening enjoying cocktails and superb food.

The dining experience was amazing from start to end. We enjoyed hearing about the background to the food, the personal story about our selected wine, and being looked after throughout our meal. The food was presented brilliantly and was amazing, deserving of a Hollywood handshake 😀.

Service was adequate, waitress did not know what the fish was with the fish and chips, and no offer to find out when asked! The curry was nice, but should have come with rice, poppadom and naan bread. The naans turned out to be tortilla wraps! Service was very slow, especially for drinks Restaurant area is tired and needs refreshing
