Welcome to The Boat Inn.The Boat Inn Penkridge was built at the same time as the Staffs and Worcs Canal in 1779 and is one of the old ‘Gateways’ to the Village, for many years it was the first or last stopping point, as locals and visitors travelled along the Cannock Road.     Had a nice Sunday lunch. Beef was overdone for my liking but that’s risk you take. Food was nice, generous portions and extra mash, veg and gravy if needed. Staff attentive. Try to avoid sitting in front of the big fireplace as it’s freezing!

    On arrival after announcing our booking, a waiter just left me standing while they went into the kitchen ! No explanation. Just walked away ! Came back saying our table wasn’t ready , even though there were many empty tables ! No flexibility of a different table and couldn’t have been more disinterested as though I’d stopped an important task of filling up cutlery /napkin trays . I’ve been to many similar restaurants in the area who wouldn’t find it a problem to seat at alternative table. We were directed to the bar for drinks drinks . A waitress stepped in called us when the table was ready and was great ! and the restraunt setting was lovely - preferable to the bar . Food was excellent. Seafood sharer starter in particular . Great value and lovely menu . Never had a bad meal . Shame I can’t say the same about service ! Finally - what’s happened to the decor ? Cartoon pictures in a contemporary dining setting . Wellies and umbrellas cartoonisibg a wonderful natural door dressing . Confusing look. Not what I’m used to seeing here .

    Excellent all round. Very cosy atmosphere and we weren’t rushed even though we ended up staying for almost 3 hours! Only one comment - please serve the hot drinks hotter!

    Peerless in the local area. Food superb, some amazing dishes which were all good. From chicken pie to steak, risotto, chicken parfait to tarts tatin all superb Local bar also part of the pub restaurant which was nice to see. Only negative was one of the bar proper uppers decided it was ok to vape at the bar - pretty disgusting and staff seemed accepting of this as most diners had left at that point . Well done Duncombe, superb meal and top of your game
