We visited this restaurant on 01/12/2024. Having been a regular at their Marlborough Street branch, I noticed a significant difference in the food quality and overall experience, possibly due to a new menu launched with the opening of this branch.
Food:
1.Chicken 65 (Starter): It was nice but lacked the signature curry leaves present in the original version at the Marlborough Street branch. Despite the difference, it tasted nice. Onions served on the side were really bitter.
Masala Dosa (Main): The dosa itself was fine, but it was disappointing that one of the red chutneys is no longer served.
Hyderabadi Dum Biryani: This used to be incredibly flavorful in their other branch, but this time it lacked the depth and tasted more like pulao. Our friends used Kadai curry gravy to make the rice more edible in taste.
Chicken Kadai Curry: This was the most disappointing dish of the night. The portion size was halved compared to the Marlborough Street branch, which is underwhelming for a €20 main dish. The taste had also changed drastically, leaning towards sweetness and featuring bell peppers, which was a surprising and unwelcome departure from the spicy and rich flavors it used to have. It wasnt even enough serving for a single person.
Biryani 65: Given the small portion of the Chicken Kadai, we ordered this to supplement our meal. Thankfully, it was flavorful and spicy, with the chicken complementing the rice well.
Tea: Unfortunately, the tea was a major letdown. It had an overcooked taste, overly sweetened with tea whiteners. No one in our group could finish it.
Overall Experience:
While I have always enjoyed the Marlborough Street branch, this visit to the Abbey Street location was underwhelming. The food quality, portion sizes, and service did not meet expectations, and the loud atmosphere added to the discomfort. I won’t be returning to this branch, but I’ll definitely revisit Marlborough Street, as it has consistently provided great experiences.
