   After hearing so much about this place we were so excited to dine here for my husband’s birthday. Most of the dishes (we ordered 3 small plates, 2 sides and 2 large plates) were heavy and oily. Not only that they were sweet! Why is the food sweet? At one point our table was just laden with plates that all had a red curry type base (the fish, the chicken, the pork, the beef - all of them!) that did nothing but dampen flavors. And it was sweet. I was expecting an elegant meal packed with diverse flavors from Southeast Asia. Instead we got a sludgy meal that we couldn’t eat even though we were hungry.

   This was our second time dining here. We rodered a drink at the bar as we awaited our table, expertly made and refreshing. The servers were execeptional as to be expected at an establishment of this caliber. One of the reasons we choose to return was chef Tara Monsod yet we sadly found out she was not in the kitchen that day. She was working at Coachella. For our main course we ordered the Australian wagyu "medium rare" and it arrived "well done". The staff was apoligetic and took responsiblity for the error even as the food was delievered. They prepared a second serving free of charge which at $160 was a touch of class, we boxed it up to take home. The music was too loud and didnt match the environment i.e. we saw several couples celebrating what we imagine to be special events of their own and the volume of the music made it hard to even hear the servers inches away from us. The server confirmed that this was a recurring issues with many guests. We were there to celebrate a birthday and received the birthday dessert at the end of the meal in addition to the dessert we ordered which was nice. So overall, it was good but not great.

   Music was overpowering the experience. Needless voice raising in order to communicate with service staff. Food and service IS top quality.

   This is our second time at Animae, we were disappointed the first time and this second time because we were disappointed with the food. We ordered 3 dishes and we were disappointed with all 3, the tastes were awful and the food made our belly bloated and aching.

    My wife and I came to Animae for our 5-year anniversary, and overall, it was a memorable experience. Andre was our server and he was incredible—attentive, warm, and walked us through the menu like a pro, which we really appreciated since it was our first time. We ordered the tuna kililaw, the wontons, the coal-roasted cabbage, and the short rib kare kare—every single one was fantastic. The flavors were unique and beautifully balanced, and the presentation was on point. The only downside, unfortunately, was the A5 wagyu tenderloin. We ordered 8oz (around $300) expecting that melt-in-your-mouth richness we’ve had with A5 wagyu before, but it came out dry, over-charred, and overcooked. For the price, it was disappointing and didn’t live up to the rest of the meal. That said, we’ll definitely be back—we loved the vibe and the rest of the food. Just probably won’t go for the wagyu again, which felt more like a money grab than a standout dish. Also not a fan of the music but the food makes up for it .
