New Year’s Eve is always a challenging night for restaurants, and I get it—it’s a high-pressure evening with so many moving parts. But it was clear that this restaurant was overwhelmed, and unfortunately, that showed in just about every aspect of our experience.
The evening started poorly with a 30-minute delay for our reservation, followed by service that felt disorganized and inattentive. Our server struggled to remember even the simple details of a tasting menu (just beef, fish, or vegetarian), didn’t clear glasses or silverware between courses, and needed multiple reminders to bring drinks and the next course. It ended up taking three hours to get through just three courses.
The food was uneven. The beef and fish were definite highlights, but the starters were forgettable, and the dessert was outright disappointing. What really stood out was the wine pairing—it felt like a cash grab, featuring expensive selections that didn’t even make sense with the courses.
And then there’s the bill. I understand a pre-determined gratuity on a night like New Year’s, but for an experience that was so clearly subpar, it came across as out of touch. We left with a final total of over $800, feeling frustrated and let down.
What really stings is that the restaurant must have known they were dropping the ball. Acknowledgment, an apology, or some sort of proactive gesture—whether a discount or even just lenience on the bill—would have gone a long way. Instead, the night ended with no acknowledgment of what had gone wrong, leaving us disappointed and unlikely to return.
