All together, dining at ARLO was a wonderful. However, there were certain things that when all added together, made the service disappointing. I am not sure if this is the case for their regular dinner service, as we went for their set menu per Valentine’s Day, but their menu descriptions seemed inaccurate compared the actual dish. I ordered the confit duck as my first course and I was served a small dish of what seemed to be pulled pork. Served without any notice, you would have never been able to tell you were eating duck. It was extremely salty and had a fishy taste. I honestly thought it was tuna. Paired with the bread and jam it was editable but disappointing for the level of dining my husband and I were expecting. The second offense of the evening was the filet mignon. We ordered it medium and it came out well. There was no pink whatsoever, and the meat was tough and hard to cut even with a steak knife. However the scalloped potatoes however were DELICIOUS and cooked to perfection. Lastly, i would like to add that this menu was not entirely allergy friendly. When I inquired about a gluten free alternative for the cake-desserts that were on the menu, my only options were sorbet. And when served, it was a measly spoonful compared to the large and creatively plated mousse cake. Plus, I was still charged the $80 despite loosing out of one of the courses entirely. Ultimately however, the service was impeccable. The issues lied not with our server but rather with the kitchen. As a member of the food industry myself, it was disappointing to see such poor performance in our food, seeing as our server was so attentive and friendly. Additionally, for the grand price of $180, the amount of food and the quality was not worth the price. I have dined at many similar restaurants for Valentine’s Day with mirrored menus and this was by far the most poorly executed one.

Such a wonderfully cozy, casual yet elegant atmosphere. The server was extremely helpful and confident and knowledgeable. Food was amazing.

I enjoyed the venue. My server was very helpful and attentive even though I was dining alone. The food was delicious. I would definitely eat there again. I do wish they had some vegan or vegetarian items on the menu though. I was very limited in what I could order.

The waiter was excellent. We decided on Arlo based off their website and the scallops on the menu. Upon seating, the top items on the menu were described, the scallops being mentioned. Two of the three of us ordered the scallops. About 5 - 7 minutes later, the waiter returned saying they did not have scallops that evening. I changed my choice to the Chilean Sea Bass and my daughter changed hers to the Salmon. The sea bass smelled fishy upon arrival and literally turned my stomach. I don't ever recall a fishy smell when I've ordered Chilean sea bass anywhere else. It is one of my favorite fishes. I took a small cutting and all I got for flavor was olive oil...lots of it. I pushed the plate away. I let my daughter who ordered the salmon try it and she said it wasn't terrible, but not the same in cut and texture we are used to. My other daughter ordered the Chilean Sea Bass originally and she said she it was okay and she would eat it. The waiter apologized profusely and offered other dishes, but I had lost my appetite already. He generously said he would take it off the bill. I said he did not have to it was just something I did not care for. He said he would leave the plate on the table in case my daughters wanted any of it. The manager arrived and apologized and then picked up the plate and walked away. Needless to say, we will not be back, overall flavor of the Sea Bass my one daughter had and the salmon my other daughter had was very lackluster. The next day, 2 of our friends mentioned they were going to try Arlo for lunch, specifically for the scallops and we told them to try somewhere else. They went to a restaurant in La Jolla. Again, the waiter was excellent, the food not very good and the manager should not have taken the plate if I said I would pay for it and the waiter said he would leave it.

Second time dining here. Main server was sort of disappointing. Once Anthony took over our table service went from a 3* to a 5*. Parts of main entrees were cold. Probably plated waiting for protein to finish cooking. Asked salad to be split, we received it in one bowl, not split, no plates and no utensil to split it with. We made do asking for plates and using our existing forks. After mentioning this to Anthony we were comp'd 2 desserts. I'd go again. Food is very tasty if it comes out hot.
