Opened in the summer of 2010 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn by Motoko Watanabe and Shaul Margulies, House of Small Wonder (HOSW) soon became a popular place for breakfast, lunch and all day brunch and pastries. The new location in Berlin opened in December 2014 and is located on the quiet Johannisstrasse, just off the bustling Friedrichstrasse. It has a very similar warm atmosphere, lots of wood, lots of plants. The culinary concept follows the footsteps of its Brooklyn café and has numerous Japanese influences: comfort food with organic, local ingredients, freshly prepared with Japanese flavors whenever possible. Homemade bread, croissants and pastries are all freshly baked throughout the day. Now open for dinner!

Ein etwas versteckt gelegenes, feines Restaurant. Auf jeden Fall lohnen die Suche & das Finden. Es empfiehlt sich, vorab zu reservieren. Das Essen ist hervorragend, für unsere Gaumen originell und extrem schmackhaft.

Wir waren zum ersten Mal hier. Das Essen und die Drinks waren klasse und sein Geld wert. Ich empfand das Restaurant von der Akustik recht laut. Service wirkte für mich etwas sleepy, aber war stets freundlich und alles kam wie bestellt. Wir werden wieder hingehen:-) Alles in allem war es ein tolles Mittagessen.

Das Ambiente ist wunderbar. Wir waren im hinteren großen Raum/Saal. Der Service ist super, es sind alle sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Essen (Brunch) war megalecker und die Portionen sind reichlich. Immer wieder gern gehen wir dahin

Gutes Essen, freundliche Bedienung. Allerdings wurden wir schon während des Hauptgangs mehrmals genötigt, uns für ein Dessert zu entscheiden, da die Küche ca. 9:30 schon schliessen werde. Hingegen wird man über die Website informiert, dass die letzte Bestellung bis 22:00 möglich ist.

Schöne Location in einem historischen Gebäude, kreative Frühstücksauswahl, freundlicher Service (wenn auch nur auf Englisch). Absolute Empfehlung!

Went for brunch at House of Small Wonder with a few friends on the weekend. The service was fast and friendly, the food was tasty and plenty but not as interesting or exceptional as we had hoped after reading the menu. The restaurant is small and nicely decorated, but noise levels are pretty high. They do state in their reservation that you only have the table for 90 minutes, and to our surprise and disappointment they will actually make you leave within 15 minutes of your time-window, which is a shame as we would have loved to enjoy a few more drinks and potentially dessert (which we did, somewhere else). Also, as others have mentioned and the restaurant states when you reserve, they don't allow you to split the bill. Not a dealbreaker for us, but strange nevertheless since most restaurants seem to be fine with this. Overall, it was a good but not amazing experience. We got the impression that they just want funnel as many people as possible through each day and essentially expect you to eat, pay and leave. So while it's nice enough, I don't think we will be returning as it was just not the relaxing experience I would want for my brunch.
