   We had an amazing dinner - described as American with a flair, felt like a mix between North Carolina and NOLA - every single dish better than the one before. We tried all the appetizers and they were spectacular - try the shishito peppers, the cornbread, and the clams if you HAVE to choose but they’re all worth it. For dinner everyone chose something different but the gnocchi and oxtail was the clear winner - the fried chicken was crispy and on point, the farmers steak was out of this world. The crab cake croissant was also perfection.l with the tomato sauce acting like a gazpacho. Hands down the best restaurant in Ybor City. Our team visited Colombia, the Crafting place, Ulele, Copper - a real treat to see so many great places within feet of each other!

   They have this one German manager or assistant manager, he really makes you feel welcome. The right amount of check-ins, and interactions. Hands down the best I’ve been treated in a while.

   The manager was great, along with our server. They recently changed their menu, so what's online isn't reflected of that yet. My steak was cooked perfectly, and our drinks were very good. We will be back

   My fault for not taking a good look at the menu, but the food is very odd and as the waitress put it when I asked her how she would describe it, “it’s all over the place “. In my opinion it was odd combination and very unusual pairings of ingredients. For instance… bacon-wrapped dates? Good for the very adventurous diner. The atmosphere was good and the service was good. Location was great… near the heart of Ybor.

   Overall we had a great experience here. The menu had some great and unique options. Our server brought us complimentary corn ribs to start and they were 10/10. The sauce and relish they added was delicious. From there we ordered the corn bread that came with a bourbon butter and cinnamon cream. It was stuffed with cheese and bacon which settled at the bottom. The corn bread and butter/cream were fantastic, but the cheese and bacon didn’t quite work. For the main course I had the cast iron steak which came with fried rice and an egg. I’m not sure what cut of steak it was, but it was lean and chewier. It had decent flavor, but the cook wasn’t even throughout. My husband had the moko loco which was amazing! We came at 7p on a Saturday and there weren’t many tables in the restaurant, so you can easily get in without a reservation. I wish they would have sat us on the side of the restaurant with other people as our side was completely empty, so the atmosphere was a little dead. It’s really a great addition to Ybor and I hope more people find it, so they stick around!

   This was our first time visiting Barterhouse. We were a group of 5 celebrating a friends birthday. We had requested a table in the lounge, but got a table in the dining area despite the place being empty on a Friday night (we were 1 of 3 tables there). Shortly after ordering drinks and apps we were told the kitchen was closing at 9 and we had to put our dinner orders in. Closing at 9 on a Friday night??? The server was cordial and polite and did her best not to rush us, it was clear she was just following orders. Food was limited, lackluster and expensive. We ordered 3 apps and all were over $20. They were called Small Sharing Plates, yet mine was a single scallop, by itself in the center of a huge plate surrounded by some scrapes of fruit and squirts of sauce for $23!!! We tried to share it but it was pretty impossible. I wanted a salad, but there was nothing like that available. In fact, there was nothing green on the entire menu, and few health conscious choices. I had the fresh catch which was sea bass. It arrived overcooked, somewhat greasy and tiny. Again it was by itself on a plate with more squirts of sauce. Some fried cauliflower that was breaded did arrive as a side for those of us having seafood but was inedible. The others had short ribs which were slightly better. The seafood priced in at $43-$46 for a small approximately 3oz. ??? No mention was made of the birthday or dessert. Drinks were adequate although there were few choices of Vodka or Tequilla, and no bottled water. By the middle of our dinner we were the only table left in the place and the staff had started cleaning the restaurant and mopping the floors and putting chairs up on tables around us. This was at approximately 10pm. This restaurant was an epic fail on our list. We are very surprised “That’s So Tampa” recommended it. We will not be back, nor recommend it.

    I have been to Barterhouse twice and both times the food was very good. The hush puppies are my favorite small plate, the catch of the day was sea bass and that was delicious with the butternut squash mixture. We’ve also had the short rib and ravioli (which was just okay), but the carrots on the side were amazing.
