Hostess greeted us & acknowledged that it was my birthday. We were sat promptly & greeted by Brittney afterwards as she served us water. We started with our drink order of wine & an Italian soda. We also ordered the beets & bread as an appetizer. Coming from Austin, this was my first time here, as I had mentioned to Brittney. My partner told me what she has been here in the past a couple of times, but she did not remember what she ordered. I took it upon myself to go on Google & look for pictures from what others have posted. Once our waitress came back with our drink orders, we asked her what her thoughts were on what it might be. We went with Trenne Bombay & the Ravioli alle Noci. Our bread with garlic roasted olive oil & charred beets arrived shortly after & both were delicious. About 15 minutes later, our pastas came out, too.
I have had something similar to the ravioli before, but this was off by leaps & bounds. The ravioli was chewy & hard to cut through & was drenched in brown butter & oil. With the one bite that I took, my lips felt greasy and my stomach immediately said that was entirely way too much oil. The Trenne was also overly al dente. She wanted to make sure that it wasn’t a fluke so she asked me to try it, as she knows I am Italian & was raised on homemade pasta that Nonna & my zietta would make. We politely called over Brittney & showed her that the Trenne was hard & sticking together. She gladly replaced mine with Cacio e Pepe & had the Trenne redone. Our food arrived 5 minutes later & the pasta was same consistency. Brittney did not come back to check to see if all was ok, nor did we ever get a refill on our wine or soda (we had two refills of water once when she brought the appetizers & again when she brought the check). It would have been nice to enjoy a dessert or coffee if we had been offered, too. I mean after all, it was my birthday. We paid our bill & each left an almost 30% tip on a service & food that was mediocre, at best.
