We moved to the Tampa area in 2009 and have a number of meals at Bern's. We have always enjoyed our meals there and would often visit for our anniversary, wife's birthday, or other celebrations. Some meals at Bern's were better than others, but our most recent visit left us disappointed.
We had an early evening Sunday reservation..
This visit, we decided to split an 18oz Delmonico. We also ordered a Caesar and chimichurri sauce. My wife is not a fan of French onion soup, so I got that eat that.
Salads were fine. Ingredients were fresh and crisp. My wife said that she makes a better Caesar dressing and she would not order it again.
Although everything that came out, were were told be careful because they were very hot.
The soup and the steak were warm at best. The plates room temperature.
When the steak arrived, we were very disappointed to see the steak was already sliced. It was in 8 pieces. Anniversary meal with no picture opportunity, unfathomable.
They should have asked us if we wanted it sliced and should have done that in front of us at the table.
Ordered medium rare, but was served medium. Flavor was ok, but nothing great. We have definitely had better cuts and presentation at Council Oak and Charley's, which are our other special occasion restaurants.
We visited the desert room after dinner. We were given the first barrel on the left. It was the worst location. We could hear the 6 girls working at the hostess station chatting away the whole time. And every person that walked by would look in at us.
Ice cream was very good. Environment, not as good.
Regardless if our visit was a fluke, my wife was disappointed enough to say we are not going back.
It was our anniversary and my wife did not want to complain while dinning.
