I had high hopes for Biest, especially with its incredible ambiance. The restaurant looks amazing--the bar area is classy, and for Valentine's Day, they had red roses and candles on each table, creating a romantic atmosphere. Our host initially told us we were 10 minutes early for our reservation (which we weren't), but they seated us right away, which was a great start.
Unfortunately, the experience declined from there. Our server was fine but didn't seem very familiar with the menu. We started with the garlic bread, which came with only four small rolls. They were okay but would have been much better with some sauce.
The biggest issue was the wait time for food. Despite a smaller menu than before, it took over 40-45 minutes to arrive. Meanwhile, our drinks came in a reasonable time and were enjoyable. My date ordered the Grilled Hanger Steak (medium, chef's recommendation)--it was fine but nothing special, and I could easily make a better steak at home. It was served with mashed potatoes but also unexpectedly had roasted potatoes. I had the Penne Rigate with spicy Italian sausage, which had some heat but was overwhelmingly oily. The sauce lacked depth and flavor, which was disappointing for an Italian restaurant.
Adding to the frustration, no one checked on us during the long wait. When it was time to pay, I asked if I could use Apple Pay, and they said yes. However, they handed me a physical check and walked away. When I asked again, they told me I had to wait since they were busy.
Overall, Biest has a stunning atmosphere, but the food and service don't match the aesthetic. I might return to try their pizza, but I won't expect much. If you're going to be a great Italian restaurant, your pasta needs to be exceptional. My rating: 5/10 (3 stars)--great ambiance, decent drinks, but lackluster food and service.
