We had a particularly bad experience and I am not sure if this was an off-night or just the new norm with BJs. We made reservations for my father's 84th birthday weeks in advance as he just loves their Pazookies and frankly isn't capable of going anywhere fancy any longer. Our reservations were confirmed/verified an hour before when a member of the staff called us. Yet, when we arrived right on time, we were told we needed to wait and ultimately sat around for almost 15 minutes while 3 hostesses giggled and chatted amongst themselves. After awhile, I walked the half empty restaurant and noted 3 tables large enough to fit our party of 7 and questioned why we were waiting so long -- including my elderly parents. So I approached the hostess and asked when we were going to be seated? One of the 3 hostesses said "Oh, I can probably take you right now." She grabbed menus and we walked to one of the three tables that had been vacant and cleaned the entire time we were standing in the restaurant. Why again did we wait 15 minutes?!
The waitstaff couldn't wait to get our orders in -- badgering us every 2 minutes -- and once we had our orders in we didn't see her for huge periods of time. Plates weren't served w/ apps, waters weren't refilled, plates from app rounds weren't cleared, they forgot my 9-year old's soda, and my mother's soda water was flat which took forever to replace.
Finally entrees come, and sure enough my Father's meal was room temperature and had to be sent back while everyone else ate on his birthday while he just watched us. Of course we all chipped off pieces of our meals, but he has a hard time eating and can only have select items. It was just really disappointing.
We even ordered desserts and yet half our plates were still on the table, completely uncleared. It was just sloppy and a very poor experience.
Maybe this is what BJs has become and we should have lower expectations, but overall it was disappointing and I wouldn't go back.
