My girlfriend and I visited Bull and Bourbon at Sycuan Casino on a Friday night, expecting a great meal based on its solid reviews. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired, largely due to poor management and service.
We started the evening at the bar, which took 25 minutes just to place a drink order. The bartender was clearly overwhelmed and received no assistance from the manager, who stood idly by. Despite the delay, the Old Fashioneds we ordered were excellent.
Our appetizers, bacon-wrapped shrimp and a shared Caesar salad, arrived quickly (within 10 minutes) and were very good, giving us some hope for the rest of the meal. However, things fell apart when it came to our main courses.
We ordered a petite filet with asparagus (which included French onion soup) and chicken piccata, along with an espresso martini. About 25 minutes later, the bartender asked if we had received the soup—it hadn’t arrived yet. It showed up 10 minutes later, but our entrees never came. After waiting an additional 30 minutes with no explanation or update, we finally canceled the rest of our order.
There was no genuine apology, no effort to make things right, and no compensation for the unacceptable delay. The restaurant wasn’t even particularly busy, making it seem as though they had simply forgotten to prepare our food.
It’s clear that the casino prioritizes gambling over delivering a quality dining experience. While the food we did receive was good, the poor service and lack of accountability left a bad taste in our mouths. We won’t be returning and would caution others to manage their expectations if they choose to dine here.
The In & Out we got on our way home was delicious though and received with great service.
