Booked afternoon tea using Wowcher. Would have expected a more attentive service overall - plonked on a table next to the bar, after 15 minutes had to ask someone to come over to order as it was as if they had forgotten us!
Afternoon tea brought over with no explanation of what the sandwiches or cakes were, nor were we asked at any stage about allergies (which is standard now in most restaurants). We had to ask about nuts etc as one of our party has a slight nut allergy.
With regards to the afternoon tea itself, we had far too many egg mayonnaise sandwiches and rolls which felt like a cheap filler option. A couple of coronation chicken sandwiches and rolls, which were delicious. I think just one cucumber sandwich (we had two afternoon teas as there were four of us) - there were certainly none on my afternoon tea sandwich plate. We were expecting some salmon sandwiches but nope, nothing.
The scones were nice, nothing amazing but good with a good amount of clotted cream and little jars of jam.
The cakes, well we had to ask the waitress to come back over to explain what they were which was done rapid fire.
We had salted caramel cake slices (could have been sliced in a more presentable way), custard tart with blueberries, one macaron per afternoon tea, chocolate mouse cake, raspberry mouse cake.... They were all tasty but would have appreciated more than one macaron per serving.
When it came time to pay, I was told they had lost the print out with the Wowcher qr codes I had given to the waitress. This was eventually sorted but how it got lost, Lord knows.
Overall, would I go back? Not for afternoon tea. The experience was nothing special and the service was below par (staff weren't rude but definitely more training needed). However, I'd potentially go back just for cake, and drinks - and the coronation chicken, which was so good!
If the service and the afternoon tea offering improves, I'd consider booking afternoon tea again. But only after improvements.
