Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton—the women behind Canal House Station—are cooks, writers, and artists. In 2007 they founded Canal House, which includes a publishing venture and a culinary, photography, and design studio. Their cookbook "Canal House Cooks Every Day" received a James Beard Award in 2012.

In 2019, Christopher and Melissa opened Canal House Station, a hidden gem tucked into an elegantly restored 1870s train station on the banks of the Delaware River in Milford, NJ. Their idiosyncratic, modern American cuisine is inspired by local ingredients that are ripe and in season in Hunterdon and Bucks County. They are two women, cooking together, and sharing their love of gathering people around the table to eat good food. They have been nominated twice for a James Beard Foundation “Best Chef: Mid Atlantic” award.

Canal House Station offers "Sunday Dinner" every Sunday. It is available for Private & Corporate Events, and Celebratory Gatherings throughout the year.

We went for the pre-fix valentines dinner and it was outstanding! We will definitely be back to try their regular menu.

This place is the best dining experience in NJ Elegant but understated! Food is impeccably prepared and delicious in every way. Pre fixe menus never disappoint and always willing to accommodate special needs. Been here several times for dinner both their Sunday night Italian meals or Friday evening. Special occasion place as it’s not inexpensive but worth a visit. BYOB too!!

Lunch at the canal house station was more than just lunch, it was an experience! The ambience at the train station was exceptional, I felt as if I was somewhere in Europe. Our server was not only knowledgeable about everything that was served, her timing with all of the courses was perfect! As a seasoned home cook myself, each course exceeded my expectations in authenticity and flavor! Even the coffee served with dessert reminded me of my grandmother's fresh perked coffee. The icing on the cake was meeting Melissa and Christopher , a dynamic duo!! I can't wait to return!!

What a wonderful restaurant. The menu, cuisine, and serve were all excellent. We've been there many times and we are always delighted to return.

It is extraordinary to find well prepared food today. CHS prepares well sourced food exquisitely. The atmosphere is warm and comforting. The service is attentive and not intrusive. The generosity of Melissa and Christopher is palpable. I always leave with a smile on my face and a pleasantly full tum.

The food at Canal House Station is some of the best I’ve ever had. The creativity and quality are amazing! Our servers were also terrific, so attentive without being overbearing. I love that they publish their Sunday dinner menus in advance now. I love that they do some special occasion meals, New Year’s Eve dinner was fantastic.

Outstanding and fun! 4 of us attended Friday Spaghetti night with "local's" along with joined tables, beautiful warm environment, perfect service and the home made pasta bolognese with a crisp salad, just right garlic bread and homemade Tiramisu ice cream was just what we needed on a cold December evening. Can't wait to return!
