Candela Cucina is an upscale Italian restaurant from Servedwell Hospitality in the historic Candleworks building. Candela Cucina is not just another Italian American restaurant, Candela is an authentic Italian restaurant. Candela’s menu ranges from classic Italian dishes to innovative contemporary creations, all crafted with the finest ingredients.

This new concept from Servedwell Hospitality is in partnership with Peter Biondi. Pete has opened other Servedwell concepts and has worked at several NYC Michelin-starred restaurants. The menu is crafted and overseen by Chef Josh Riazi. Josh has been overseeing all Servedwell’s culinary development and operations since 2018. Josh has worked in several highly acclaimed restaurants; most notably, Josh was Executive Chef at Al Forno in Providence, RI. Josh is assisted by Chef Joe Melo, a Servedwell alum, who will oversee daily culinary operations at Candela.

    Service is excellent! Food is good. We’ve been there twice and I find the food very salty. The Bolognese is good but, penne isn’t the right vessel as lots of meat isn’t properly caught by this pasta.

    This was our first time at the newly renovated restaurant so we noticed many changes in the decor and table layout. Very attractive and positive improvements, I’d say. Our server, Jordan, was professional, attentive, and knowledgeable. He assisted us in the wine selection and helped us to a winner. Our appetizer was absolutely delicious and my spouse/I shared it—whipped Ricotta cheese with pistachio pesto and pear, along with focaccia bread. She had a swordfish entree…excellent, if not a touch overcooked. I had a special item-Wild Boar chop with endive, small onions and a delicious grain whose name escapes me. Very tasty and both entrees were large so we took home food to enjoy. No room for dessert… We were even provided with complimentary limoncello since our entrees took extra time for preparation! Overall, a wonderful meal on a cold and blustery evening. I recommend a visit soon.

    Everything was superb. The food. The server. The atmosphere and especially the manager who made sure we had an excellent experience.

    Food and drinks were excellent. We tried three of the pasta dishes and we all enjoyed them. We shared desserts and the pistachio ice cream and tiramisu were amazing. Expresso martinis were delicious as well.

    Nice space and decent wine list but food was just OK at best. Far from authentic Italian as everything was too sweet to taste actual ingredients. Costs did not reflect the quality level of the food. For what we paid, quality should have been better. That being said, an OK restaurant is better than mostly anything else that is not authentic Portuguese in New Bedford so it's a win. I would return but just for a glass of wine at the bar.

    The cocktails and food were amazing! The fried artichokes were delicious and a nice appetizer that you don’t see often in our area!

    Enjoyed dinner last night, and I will most definitely be returning. The food was delicious as were the drinks. The ricotta app is amazing, and the shrimp pasta dish was light and flavorful. Beautiful restaurant, a welcomed addition to New Bedford.
