Carmel transports the energy, culture, and flavor of the renowned outdoor marketplace “Shuk HaCarmel” to Melrose Avenue, in the heart of LA’s food scene.

Using some of the oldest techniques in the world— a wood-burning oven, an open flame grill— chef Asaf Maoz interprets ancient Levantine cooking traditions through a modern lens.

Dishes showcase the best of the season: farmer’s market produce, sustainably-sourced meats and seafood, all prepared with the global culinary influence of the Tel Aviv shuk. Breads are baked in-house, including a 72-hour fermented Moroccan Frena, baked to order in the wood-fire oven.

    Brunch at Carmel is amazing! We’ve always enjoyed dinner there and brunch may even supersede that. Must tries: Jerusalem Bagel with the eggplant/feta brûlée (i don’t like eggplant and this was delicious); the Tel Aviv omelet; and their Shakshuka. Also the host and our server were so welcoming, friendly, pleasant and had wonderful energy.

    Fantastic birthday dinner for our daughter and her husband. First time for all of us, and we all said, as we walked out, we will definitely be back! We shared the octopus, shish kebab, and 2 schnitzel, which were fantastic. Everything was so fresh and the cucumber salad was such a nice side compliment. Really friendly staff and great ambiance.They greeted us acknowledging I had called ahead about the birthday but then forgot about the birthday dessert arrangements — but they made up for it. Only possible improvement might be the Sticky date pudding which was a little dry and could use soaking in a sauce like our family makes in Australia. Otherwise all was amazing!

    I recently had a fantastic first experience at Carmel, and I was eager to visit since I was a big fan of the previous establishment at this location. Carmel has certainly raised the bar in every aspect, and I can't praise it enough. I will definitely be returning, whether with friends or by myself, because this restaurant is worth experiencing in any setting!

    I had the most amazing Valentine’s dinner experience. Everything was so thoughtful and beautifully done. They had Polaroid photography which made the night feel even more special. The food was absolutely to die for and maybe the best meal I have had in LA in a while. Every bite was perfect and the whole atmosphere was just so charming. Such a memorable night.

    I have to say this was an amazing experience! Carmel was highly recommended by my business partner who’s grew up going the the market in Tev Aviv and he expressed it felt like home. So I can say it will be a staple in my restaurant rotation because I’ve yet to experience the rest of the menu. Thank you for this gem!!!!

    Excellent service and food. We were having brunch, and the menu is quite eclectic, but there was something for everyone. We really enjoyed the Benedict and the pancake.. the burger was also quite tasty as was the mushroom cigar!
