The meat is dry aged for up to 90 days to add flavour and increase tenderness then the beef cooked on a charcoal grill, specially designed to give a subtle smoky flavour. Overpriced and underwhelming. A slab of meat on an empty plate. Sauce was small, bland and disappointing. £31 plus extra for a side to accompany the steak. Miserable.. Service was ok if a little aloof - no warmth or care. Menu was not all available. We don’t mind high prices if quality is equally as high. This was not the case.. and I think they knew it.

Disappointing visit to the chop house in Bruntsfield, after a few great visits to the market street restaurant. Miscommunications between kitchen and waiting staff meant we were told after putting in our order that they had ran out of some of our choices (burgers), new choices were made after looking at menus a second time, however it then transpired burgers were still available after all (last burgers of the day at 4pm). We were told it was because they were closing the next day and didn’t want to over order. Confusing and time wasted plus adding to the kids’ hangriness but on its own not the end of the world. However once the food arrived it was all was cold (and I mean cold) apart from one. Was sent back and replaced. For £18.50 for a burger at a restaurant specialising in beef I was expecting to be wowed. It was just fine, buns were quite stale and certainly not value for money. Kids meals were decent once replaced. Staff were friendly but service was poor. Apologies were given at each mishap but no offer of any money off bill for inconvenience or any other way of rectifying which would have been really appreciated. If it hadn’t been Father’s Day I would have said more to complain but didn’t want to cause a fuss at our table. So all in all definitely not value for money and disappointing visit for a restaurant that claims to offer first class food and service. Hopefully just an off day and unlucky visit but won’t take the risk with a return visit unfortunately.

Came with dad, husband and daughter for Father’s Day. Upon arrival, a staff member showed us downstairs however, there was no greeting, no communication about where we needed to go and he disappeared downstairs (I didn’t even know there was a downstairs). When he reappeared I realised he had gone downstairs so followed him and he showed us to our table. The table was lovely however it was very cold and there was loud music playing above us. We had to ask twice for it to be turned down as we couldn’t hear each other when we were talking. As we were close to the kitchen, it was also very noisy with kitchen staff shouting/ talk loudly to each other and general kitchen noise. This was really off putting when trying to talk to each other. When the waitress came and gave us our menus, there was no children’s menu offered. I asked if they had a child’s portion of mac and cheese and she said yes. Once we had finished our meal, I found out that this was part of a children’s meal deal and that there was a drink and brownie included. We were not offered a drink or given any explanation as to what the children’s menu was but given a brownie as dessert. This was all a bit confusing. Drinks were ordered and when they arrived, our table waitress dropped a full pint on the table. This covered the table, floor and jackets. She did apologise and mopped the table with some blue roll but the floor beside people’s feet and jackets was left soaking. It would have been appropriate to ask us if we’d like to have moved tables at this point. This did not happen. We ordered the rib eye. Both were medium-rare. Sadly, the meat was gristly and very difficult to cut. I have bought better at my local supermarket. Half was left on the plate. Very disappointing. The waitress did ask how the meal was and we did tell her. She took 10% off the bill but, this wasn’t sufficient enough for us to want to return again. A real shame as we had a fantastic first experience here. Back to Kylo for us.

Live locally to the Bruntsfield Chop House and hadn't tried it for 3 or 4 years as pretty poor experiences for a variety of reasons in the past but thought let's give it another go as its local and a nice environment. Sadly, wont be back as whilst the service was good the basics just fail. We both had a cocktail each, a glass of wine each and the food was just main courses, 2 fillet steaks and 2 sides to share. The biggest and main issue was the steaks were brought out with no sides. or straw fries which we also had to order in addition. We waited and waited. Firstly, the steaks did not seem the size I recall and disappointed given they are £1 under £40 on their on! So, we are waiting for the fries and sides to arrive and all the time this £40 steak is getting colder and colder. In addition the two couples next to us were also in the same boat waiting and waiting for their sides to arrive in some sort of co ordinated timely fashion. They were as disappointed as us. The waiting staff did what they could and were pleasant but they can only serve what comes out the kitchen. Even though the steak were smaller than I would have hoped for they were tasty and we enjoyed the flavours though. Sides were very bland - broccoli and the mushrooms, just tasteless. We spent just under £180 for two (not including service), 2 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine and 2 steaks/2 sides and fries. At that price it really has to be spot and sadly so far off the mark. Getting a steak to the table with fries and a couple of sides within a minute or two of each other should not be that difficult....especially when paying that price. I very rarely write reviews and it's sad this is so negative as we would like to have a good steak place we could rely on nearby and go regularly but its just had too many chances to go back.

Service was slow. I ordered a rare rump steak, it was medium / well done. If anyone had come to ask how the meal was, I would have told them but no-one came until it was time to leave. The steaks arrived at the table a good 45 mins after we’d finished our starters. The starters were nice tbf. The sides for the steaks arrived a good 5 mins after the steaks. For a steak house, I’d expect them to be able to cook a rare steak, it shouldn’t be that difficult. I’ll not be returning and certainly won’t be recommending Chop House Bruntsfield.

Very disappointing. Steak was served and had to wait for sides. Steak was cold and had to be returned. Still not hot when returned but kept it as sides would have been cold by the time it was returned again. Quality of steak was not great - ordered a fillet but it did not cut like a fillet. Ordered it well done and meat was still pink in the middle. Service was slow and poor waitress was run off her feet doing everything

It was our first time visiting the Chop House. It wasn't good value for the price. You can pay the same - roughly £50 per person at Miller and Carter and get sides included with your meal. The hand cut chips tasted and looked like they had been re fried several times. Also the straw fries were cold. The steak knives were also really blunt. The waiting staff were brilliant, friendly and polite, hence the tip. We didn't complain in the restaurant bc we were meeting friends afterwards and wouldn't have time for anything to be rectified. We won't be returning.

The steak was outstanding, having dined with many of the elite steak restaurants in Edinburgh, Chop House was by far one of the best. The service we received was slow unfortunately with wait times too long (7pm booking and didn’t start eating main course till 8:30pm). Our starters did not all come together which they did apologise for but it was slightly frustrating. I hope this is just a one off though and we will be back.

Lovely atmosphere, great playlist (at a good volume) and most of all the food was fantastic, according to my young son, the muscles were "Amazing, the best I've had" (and he's had ALOT!) The steak was of course also outstanding. Would highly recommend.

Party of four, two had steak frites, one ribeye, sides and puddings. The server was excellent, the food fantastic. The steak frites is great value for money, so tasty. Will definitely be back.
