This was my second time coming to the Dawn and it was much better this time. It was pretty empty in there today. I ordered smoked salmon deviled eggs, bacon flight, jalapeño grits and pot roast and the lemon raspberry waffle. Everything was good. I also ordered a mezcal tequila drink with avocado which was a bit weird but I did like it. The service was decent as well. Overall, I’d definitely come back.

Nice restaurant. My food was good a had the jambalaya skillet and banana pudding pancakes. Was really good I’d go back. My sister didn’t like her food she had the cornbread chicken pancakes and the chicken was very dry and her pancakes she didn’t like at all. Our waitress we saw her about 3 times and when I need something is was like I could never find her.

Everything was amazing! They did sell out of one of the main things I wanted to try, but everything that I did order was phenomenal. I will be back again & again!

Cashier was friendly and approachable. The food was YUMMY. French toast and deviled eggs .. and the GRITS .. go Get some and thank me later. Lots of quick wins for this place .. Train your waitstaff a few tweaks and it’s stellar. We had a young girl she never told us her name and she never checked back on us and it took her 30 minutes to acknowledge us once we sat down. She needs training, interpersonal skills needed, keep straws in your apron, be efficient teach her how to be save time .. I will go back

Secondly, we had several call offs that day, preventing our 2 servers at the time from providing the best service, which is a very unfortunate shortcoming. This was my third time dining at Dawn. The food had always been consistently good. The service however always is lackluster and can use some major tweaking. It takes a while for the to greet you when you arrive. This even if there are 3 people working up front. I got better service this time from Jasmine who seemed a little older and more professional than the typical servers. She came back several times to see if we needed anything which did not happen on my prior two visits. If they had excellent customer service I would have rated them higher. Overall go for the food but don’t expect warm and fuzzy service.

All in all, the food was terrific and would def go back again. The service is spotty and just depends on who your server is. It's not inexpensive but again, the food is quite good. Dawn is a terrific addition to Hyde Park and the fact that it's black-owned is a bonus! Be prepared for a bit of a wait even with reservations.
