This is my 4th or 5th time dining at Eataly. When the restaurant first opened, it was completely understandable that the service team were learning and managing patrons to the best of their ability. However I continue to be disappointed with the wait staff. They are not appropriately trained for what one would expect for a high end restaurant. The team comes off as confused and lingers at tables inputting simple dining orders into a tablet that either does not make it easy for them or they do not know how to use it. Today, for a party of 4 (2 were kids), we ordered drinks. Once again, iced tea is not available (which is extremely odd), the Shirley temple could not be made with ginger ale and I ordered an Aperol Spritz which came back without the orange slice. Typically not a big deal but our table was right by the bar and I saw fresh oranges right there asking to be put in the drink. Then we ordered a pizza to share and two pasta dishes. The server had no idea if the pasta dish (cávatelli sausage broccoli rabe) could be made without cheese so she had to go back to the kitchen, again not a big deal but once confirmed, she then repeated our order after standing by our table for an uncomfortable amount of time and then repeated our drink order which was already served to us. Our pizza came out which was for the adults. As we waited for the kids pasta dishes, I asked about the wait to the food runner and she explained pizza comes out of separately from another kitchen. Ok, but then we should have it timed as we were not having appetizers and our pizza sat cold as we waited for our children’s pasta dishes. None of this is a big deal as we are so glad Eatly has come to our neighborhood and the food is delicious but something has to be said as the front of the house is critical and should reflect the standards of a high quality restaurant that most patrons are familiar with from visiting the NYC location.
