Conrad provided wonderful service and was mindful of my allergies. The person who greeted us, and another who checked in on us were lovely. We needed to have a super early dinner because we were seeing Patti Smith at the Ulster Performing Arts Center, so it was extremely peaceful. When we returned after the show (we were staying at the Hutton brickyards Hotel in which Edgewood restaurant is located), we noticed the restaurant was bustling, yet inviting and cozy. The lights were dimmed a little bit more. Now about the meal. The food was wonderful. Classic, somewhat of a French preparation, with some creative flare. CACIO E PEPE RISOTTO: Seared scallops, black peppercorn risotto, sage, aged parmesan. Sublime. My partner had FILET MIGNON: Smashed black butter potato, black garlic cream, charred Brussels sprouts. I was happy that I was able to have a couple of bites of his, and he of mine, since his was also free of my allergens. Spectacular flavor profile. For dessert we shared MOUSSE au CHOCOLAT with whipped cream; this was a bit underwhelming. It was fine. But after experiencing the two main dishes, I was a little bit disappointed by the dessert. This might only be because it seemed to be a milk, chocolate mousse, and I am used to a rich, dark chocolate mousse. It was presented in a lovely coupe glass, with a couple of berries, it was very pretty, but the flavor was not what I was expecting. Again, it probably just has to do with the type of chocolate used, it was a perfectly adequate dessert. We will definitely be sure to book a reservation at Edgewood the next time we visit Kingston. I have already let friends know about this place. It is a beautiful historic building, and the restaurant is perfect simplicity in decor.
