We booked a table (4) at Funghi E Tartufo for an early Friday evening (5:30PM-Nov2024).
When we arrived I was surprised to be told that we couldn't be seated inside as 'they were fully booked'.
So, we found ourselves on a couple of smallish wabbly tables on Hardware Lane. Not a great start, particularly when we could clearly see that inside the place was completely empty, not a single customer seated anywhere!
We ordered our entrees which consisted of the Calamari Fritti which was on a bed of Rocket greens with some roasted capsicum. This dish was OK, probably a 7/10, but probably not worth the $21 price tag.
The other entrees were Olive Nocellara, small green unpitted olives in oil with two very small pieces of bread. At $9.00 again overpriced and not much on the plate 6/10.
The beer offering is Italian only and NO low or no-alcohol products available. As I was driving I stuck to the table water.
The mains were as follows:
1. Pappardelle Funghi e Tartufo $36.00
Quite a nice dish, but the serving was quite small 7/10.
2. Ravioli di zucca $32.00
Another pleasant offering but also on the small size 7/10.
3. Gnocchi allo zafferano $34.00
Quite a plain dish on the small side again 6/10
4. Lasagne $36.00
This was the best dish! A reasonable size and good eating 8/10
Desert:
1. Cheesecake al cioccolato $18.00
This was not a bad desert BUT it was nothing like cheescake! More like a chocolate slice 7/10
2. Tiramisù caffe e Amaretto di Saronno $20
Not the worst version of this classic that I have tried, but a bit on the small size again 7/10
So, all up it cost us $261 (+$3.92 card surcharge) $264.92 for a very average meal in a less than comfortable space.
When I went inside to pay the place was still empty.
Summary:
This place lies to its customers and treats them pretty shabbily!
The food is OK although most of the servings are quite small.
The prices are premium, but the service and the customer experience is sub-par.
