General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

    Loved our dinner. Delish rib eye and halibut. Worth the price. Perfect service and overall design and a chill ambience.

    Tartare very salty. Trifle was…well a 70s trifle. Nothing new. And assortment of food was a bit too eclectic leaving the palate a bit confused about what it had experienced. Wings and carpaccio? Trifle and tartare? Waiters were many and mildly overbearing. Think the interior was really the only thing worth the hype. That part was gorgeous! At least the place didn’t pretend to be over the top expensive.

    Jen Agg is a superstar. Our only regret is that we didn’t try the pudding 😊 the lamb, the trout tartare… Absolutely phenomenal.

    It was fun as I assumed it would be. A little rushed out in the end( I know it’s a Saturday night!) beautiful space, great service as always and food matched the vibe. So happy / proudit’s part of the neighborhood !

    Everything was excellent! My party of 2 had a bar reservation for 845pm and we arrived a tad early but were graciously accommodated. The service at the bar was exceptional, our bartender took the time to learn what I liked to drink and recommended an awesome booze-forward Bev (Helter Skelter, loved it). She also took the time to make a thoughtful recommendation for our dinner— we ended up choosing a few salads (my chopped wedge was better than any wedge salad has a right to be) and the fries…my god, the fries. They are magic. Beyond that, the ambiance was perfect, playlist was the best, and the restaurant itself is just gorgeous (my dining partner and I were salivating over the gorgeous bar too — she says it’s onyx? I say a pretty marble? Whatever it was, whole vibe was perfect). Thanks for a great holiday meal experience!

    Great food. Modern interpretation of art deco feels very warm and inviting. The service was very friendly and attentive. The menu took a seeing at tradition British with flair and was executed very well. Highly recommend the carpaccio and yellowtail crudo from the raw menu. The non alcoholic cocktail list was one of the more inspired that I have seen. A very beautiful experience that a cater to intimate couple moments and larger family and friend affairs. Highly recommend

    Amazing experience! Great food, really fun and cute vibe and absolutely 10/10 service. Our server Tyler did a great job at guiding us through the menu and choosing our courses! Would go back in a heartbeat :)
