Firstly it was like walking into your grandmother’s dining room from the 90’s. Floral blinds and dated furniture. It was dark and there were only two other couples. We were a group of six. The waitress was very attentive but the white gloved hand when placing the cutlery on the table was a step too far for me! The muse bouche were ok, a bit soggy but tasted nice. The wine was fine. I had the raviolo to start, it was large, had lots of crab but the pasta was very thick and the bisque served with it was watery and had little flavour. I had the filet of beef as a main, it was covered in a thick sauce and served with a tiny jug of more sauce. The beef was fatty and my friend had a big chunk of gristle on hers, never ever had that on any filet of beef in my life! The portion was tiny and it came with a chunk of potato that had been deep fried and a roasted onion, no other veg. It didn’t have much flavour either. I didn’t bother with dessert but two of my friends did and it looked ok. We had three bottles of wine and an espresso martini. The bill came to £225 per couple. Considering the amount of food and the quality I thought this was ridiculously overpriced! I have eaten in many restaurants in my life, and this was probably one of the most disappointing. We will not be returning. Having said that the bar downstairs looked busy and what I saw of the food being served it looked infinitely better than the restaurant, maybe we should have just gone there?

The decor is art deco in tune with the age of the building but clearly decor is a personal taste. The cutlery is prone to fingerprints which is why the white glove was used.
The food comments I will go through with the chef but I should point out that the beef was sirloin not fillet and therefore comes with more texture and individuals cuts can obviously vary. We do source from a very good local butcher but will strive to aim for greater consistency. That goes for the ravioli too which is hand made and yours seemingly insufficiently rolled and stretched.
It’s a shame you opted out of dessert as I do think they are a highlight.
We will continue to aim to improve and yes the food downstairs is very good
