Heritage is family owned and operated by Chef Philip Pretty and sister Lauren Pretty. Our lively indoor dining room was built in 1922 as a craftsman house. Walk inside to an open kitchen, request bar seating to watch us cook over a live fire Santa Maria grill. Located in the Rose Park neighborhood of Long Beach on the corner of 7th & Saint Louis Ave. Heritage Restaurant uses sustainable meat & seafood, and Farmers Market produce. Growing our own produce at Heritage Farm right up the street. Certified blue, green, and maintain a zero-waste kitchen. One red and green star Michelin awarded. We serve a tasting menu only. We politely decline modifications. Please specify all dietary restrictions/allergies when booking your reservation. Our menu is seasonal, and subject to daily changes.     Went to celebrate my husbands birthday. Each course was fresh, visually appealing, and delicious. I would highly recommend do the wine pairing. Definitely will be recommending to others and coming back for sure. I hope they also focus on making a full chocolate desert in the future though.

    It is a $150 prix fixe menu, and most dishes are good. For $150, all dishes should be delicious. Unfortunately, two of the dishes tasted rancid. One of the fish dishes had some prosciutto on the top that tasted like fertilizer, and the last dish, which was a toffee piece with huckleberry jam had that same fertilizer taste. I almost spit it out into my napkin. I did not appreciate that one of the courses was two pieces of bread with butter. I was shocked that was an actual course on the tasting menu. The tables are small. The chairs are very uncomfortable. I asked for a cushion, and they did not have any. Our primary server was nice, but the other assistants rambled through the ingredients and we could barely understand what they said. It was a loud environment, since it is quite small. I did enjoy the first two courses, and all dishes were presented beautifully. But, it was not enough to recommend or go back.

    I have dined here 5 times now and everything has been very good to great. It is an oasis in a desert of mediocre restaurants in the South Bay. The finess of flavors, and structure of the plates is spot on. I look forward to my next experience.

    WINE PAIRINGS W/ the food was spot on. Excellent service and food was amazing. 4th time @ this restaurant will do it again because their menu changes and it’s always amazing.

    The food was absolutely amazing. Michelin level culinary experience. The only two con’s I have is we had to wait outside to be seated and it was very cold so we had to huddle to keep warm. The dining room is small and intimate but also very loud, it was hard to have a conversation. We were busy enjoying our food so that wasn’t a big deal.

    Definitely not a Michelin rated restaurant in my book. Mainly because of the service. We waited about 7-8 mins until someone came to start service. Also, we wanted more than 10 minutes between the first and the second tasting. Not a good experience. The food was great.

    Our server Nick and the entire crew made us feel welcomed as they walked us through the menu for the evening. Excellent food and experience.

    I am a California native from Orange County. By the time I was a teenager in the 1970s, I had been exposed to the cutting edge of food in America, when I spent my junior year of high school in New York. After returning to California from New York, I very quickly discovered that the food I was looking for -- centered on fresh, organic, seasonal ingredients prepared in a way that brings out the natural flavors of the few ingredients thoughtfully chosen for a dish -- could not be found in Orange County, so I traveled to Los Angeles, Berkeley and San Francisco for the kind of restaurant experiences I had grown to expect. Alice Waters and Thomas Keller were my heroes. Los Angeles became my regular dining destination. On a recent Saturday evening to celebrate our anniversary, we were headed to the Forum to hear Jeff Lynne's ELO, and as he always does, my husband asked me to take care of a restaurant reservation for the evening. This time, since we did not want to battle the traffic caused by the World Series, I researched places between Laguna Beach and Inglewood and was happily surprised to find a small, charming restaurant in Long Beach whose commitment to fresh, seasonal ingredients thoughtfully prepared matched my own. Owned by siblings, Philip and Lauren Pretty, it has its own farm connected to it, much like my favorite restaurants in other parts of the world. From the moment we arrived, our experience was subtly and comfortably choreographed. The food on the seasonal tasting menu was well-prepared and delivered to our table by an attentive server at perfect intervals. Fresh bread was not an afterthought (as it sadly is in many restaurants today) it was instead, presented in the middle of the meal and provided a delight that I have not experienced since my mother's homemade bread in the 1960s. I also was delighted to experience a place where substitutions are discouraged, allowing the kitchen to prepare consistent delicious food to all.
