Last night I came to celebrate my birthday with my husband. This was my 4th time dining here. Unfortunately, it was not the same experience I’ve had the other 3 times. The first course took over 30mins and once we received our first course, majority of our food came out at the same time. We felt rushed to finish our food so that there would be space on the table. We also ordered Wagyu and barely could watch the presentation. Being rushed to eat only so there could be room to put all our orders on the table was overwhelming and frustrating. When we came in, we were greeted by the hostess and I believe the manager. They also said “We hear someone’s celebrating a birthday” and I said, “yes, mines, thank you”. With that being said, my husband also reminded one of the staff were celebrating my birthday so there was not a candle on the dessert. Our server, Makoto was great! He was super sweet, and pleasant. We know it’s not his fault that the food took long to come out and then felt rushed because everything came out at once with no space on the table, but again, it was not the experience I expected especially with it being my 4th time here. The courses we picked were delicious, but not the same presentation as I’ve had before. Staff were friendly with a nice ambience as always. Hoping the next time we decide to come back, we’ll have a better experience overall like the past.

We had a reservation and we were seated immediately. Food was excellent. A little more expensive than some others, but quality was very good. Toro tartare was outstanding. Drink prices are about what others charge. Service was a bit slow but it was a very busy Saturday night. My biggest complaint was the noise level. It was a little difficult to carry on a conversation without raising your voice, and we were at the very back of the restaurant with no tables to one side of us.

We have dined here several times and always a great experience except this time. Our food and server Natalie were great as always. Our table was by the bar which was very busy and we had 2 different people bump into my chair while waiting for seats at the bar. I did ask for another table before being seated but was told bar was all that was available. Maybe make reservations available for the main dining area and the bar area separate.

I had the Kaiseki with salmon. It was so-so. The salmon was drenched in teriyaki sauce; I didn't expect that; too much, too sweet. The tempura had the dipping sauce in a small carafe - the Japanese always serve it in a bowl as you're supposed to dip, not pour-over. The gyoza and sashimi were fine, but the "kimchi" was very odd on a tray of Japanese food. It should have been seaweed salad, not strong tasting, garlicky cucumber. Kaiseki was good value for the quantity of food. I also ordered a couple pieces of sashimi al a carte. They were very expensive - $10 for one piece of Chutoro. The interior is nicely decorated with multiple spaces - bar, sushi bar, booths, tables, even a patio. Service was so-so; felt like a newly opened restaurant. There's a lot of staff, but service wasn't always coordinated. Overall, it's Americanized Japanese food. I expected something more authentic and better with the small details, considering the chef worked in Japan for four years.
