Elevated, Authentic Dim Sum

Iron Teapot is founded during the pandemic by me, Sally, a Dim Sum lover from the San Gabriel Valley (about an hour East of Santa Monica).

Iron Teapot's menu will also offer Sustainable vegan & meatless versions of meat based dim sum
Founder Sally Chan is a meat lover that has been searching for sustainable tasty substitutes to meat dishes. In opening this restaurant, Iron Teapot is devoted to creating unique meatless versions of the most popular dim sum dishes: Siu Mai, Har Gow, and Cha Siu Bao. The meatless meats are made to be similar to meat and infused with plant-based protein - such as pea protein. Additionally, there will be a purely plant-based vegan menu that will be made without any cross-contamination.

We never received the very first item we ordered. Our waiter had suggested it. During our meal, we repeatedly asked the waiter about the missing dish and he kept telling us that he would check on it. Finally, an hour and a half later he told us that the restaurant wasn't serving that dish because they were lacking one of the ingredients. When we received the bill, we gave our waiter 2 credit cards to split the check. We were then given 1 receipt. Apparently, they charged our 2 cards without our signatures and without our being able to add a tip. We were told we could leave a cash tip. Very strange. We did enjoy our meal and the food was very good.

We went for happy hour and learned there were only 3 cocktails on the menu. Then we decided to order a bottle of wine from the menu and they did not actually have it. Then we had a man come from off the street up (wearing an ankle monitor) to our table and stick his hand out to ask for money. Then he proceeded to ask the people at the table behind us. It was disconcerting to have him come right up to us like he did. We did not feel safe at that point on top of the trouble with getting a drink that we wanted, so we left. The waiter had a great disposition though and understood why we opted to leave.

I haven’t been to Iron Teapot in a while and I regret it! It’s fantastic dim sum. I’m a long time dim sum-er and though not Chinese, I grew up outside of New York City, so I’ve been a Chinese food aficionado for years. This place is excellent. It has both traditional dim sum done beautifully and also some things that are unique, like the Shu Mai with truffle and roe. AMAZING!. The service is fun and overall, it’s a great lunch time experience.

Was looking forward to have dim sum since heard so much about it. It was abit let down since the foods are just so so, nothing special. With the prices tag (I know, location and others) I was expecting abit better then so so. I’m abit picky and I love dim sum. The custard buns are cute to look at and they have cerise animals to choose. But the filling is just so little and again, so-so. The service is great with the guy, he was nice and very friendly. The inside is cute Asian decor, great to hangout with friendS but small. They do have outside with alot of trees so great for summer. Parking was easy, parked right in front since we’re the second/third tables at 1:30pm.

Pretty nice overall, but missing some authentic notes. This is a bit more westernized, but good in a pinch for a dim sum craving without an hour-long drive east.

Went with 3 friends to catch up - not the best dim sum we’ve had but the ambiance was lovely as well as server so we very much enjoyed!
