La Contenta Oeste, helmed by Chef-Owner Luis Arce Mota, is an authentic Mexican restaurant and bar located in the heart of the West Village.     This restaurant was packed and so went to the bar and the service there was great the bartender even had a waiter helping to get our drink order so we didn’t have to go to the bar to ask for drinks Would go back

    My dining companion and I were very disappointed by our experience after reading positive reviews. Although the restaurant was only half-full and remained so during our time there, we were seated directly next to another couple who looked very uncomfortable that we were so close. When they left, another couple was seated there, when it seemed seating could easily have been arranged to provide for easier conversation. Service was disinterested - we were served the wrong wine, the drinks arrived at very different times, they didn't inquire about how spicy we wanted the guacamole, and they didn't offer dessert. The earnest bartender delivered the first mojito, saying he hoped it was okay because he hadn't made one in 5 years. It was okay; the second was undrinkable. Entrees were not attractively presented (too much sauce glopped over everything). We wanted to like it, but we won't be back.

    Just moved here from LA and this is EXCELLENT mexican food. The queso fundido was a highlight.
