Located at 699 14th Street on the coveted corner of 14th and G Street NW, La Grande Boucherie is situated on the most high-profile street in Washington D.C., just one block away from the White House. The restaurant is built in elegant and ornamental Art Nouveau style, evoking the sense of optimism from the turn of the 20th century. The brasserie’s menu features both classic and modern French dishes, with focus on the meat program, raw bar and extravagant large-format meats, ideal for sharing and celebrating. Mahogany wood and glass partitions divide the gargantuan space to create intimate dining experiences. These pieces are adorned in gilded accents and uniquely curved arches inspired by the 20th-century Art Nouveau movement of Paris. The main dining room highlights a massive curved bar with a metal top imported from Paris, a signature piece of Boucherie.

Vibes here are great. Drinks were delicious. Pear salad, the sides, dessert (particularly the basque cheesecake) and filet Mignon were good. I’m giving two stars because the mussels tasted uncleaned, service was disappointing, and was charged for birthday dessert. For the service our table was basic ,but fine even though I was never asked if I’d like another drink. However, the check being shoved at father while he was taking a bite of dessert with no words being spoken was my last straw for giving this place a good review.

We were disappointed with our experience. The reservation was for 7, (6 adults+toddler) and they planned to seat us at the top of the stairs basically in the entrance to a crowded bar room next to the piano. They moved us when we asked, but it just showed we were an afterthought. The new table was 2nd floor booth in the corner, which would have been fine except there were speakers above the table and it seemed like we were sitting on stage at a concert…and for what? The restaurant was bustling, and no one could hear the person next to them without shouting. We asked for it to be turned down, without any success. The food was okay, the seafood salad was solid and the vegetables were different/interesting. However one of the steaks, was less than warm and we were charged full price for a bottle of wine we were told was half off. The rest of dinner was unremarkable, hardly what we expected for the hype and the price. The service staff was personable and relatively attentive, but just not commensurate with the level of service we would expect in $$$$ restaurant. Sadly I do not think we will be back, our expectations for a dining experience do not mesh with LGB’s standard delivery and their expectations for the prices they charge. It was an Applebees experience with a Ruth’s Chris price tag. Very unfortunate ;(

We had reservations for our 5th wedding anniversary, the hostess acknowledged this and the we were seated in a terrible location immediately next to the servers stand and the restrooms. We asked if we could move seats and were given the option to move over one seat. It was not terribly crowded, and more effort could have been placed to find us a better seat. The server, Emily, was very kind and offered us a free desert at an apology. The food was fantastic and Emily treated us very well! She made great recommendations for wine, charcuterie, and for the Black Sesame Creme Brûlée, which I recommend tryin! Overall, the food and service were amazing, but the table was arguably the worst one in the restaurant.

Our table was cramped against a wall with zero leg room. The food was ok, service a bit slow and the noise level was ridiculous. Why on earth would they play thumping music in the middle of the lunch hour? No thanks.

Food was under seasoned, the chicken was hard to eat in the plate it was presented in. Wagyu carpaccio was underwhelming, overall lack luster. We were celebrating service was a bit rushed and server lacked personality.

I loved the aesthics of this restaurant, especially with it being Christmas time. However, the experience was lack luster. Our server, Justin, was not that friendly, did not give us any warm welcome or suggestions. He kept forgetting items we asked for and just seemed rushed. His cigarette smell on his clothes did not help either. The best item we had was the rose alcohol drink and the gouda mac and cheese. For the money we paid, there are far better places to go with better service and food quality.
