    Definitely come for the chef’s tasting menu, 7 or 10 courses. Each course was more fabulous than the last! We did not order mixed drinks but the ones that come with the tasting menu looked very intriguing and were beautifully presented. This is a place for special occasions.

    Makal is an outstanding restaurant. The ten course tasting menu was memorable - each course was creative and perfectly prepared. (And at US $95, a terrific value.) Some highlights were the watermelon tiradito (marinated and grilled with black garlic purée, ginger mayo and ponzu), the cauliflower taco (grilled with black bean puree and cilantro chimichurri) and chicken with the best mole I've ever eaten. The cocktails were unique and delicious. Our server, Lorena, was knowledgeable, warm and enthusiastic, and the ambience was extremely comfortable. The experience was on a par with the best meals I've had.

    We were excited to try a new fine dining experience in the Zona Romantica and ordered the 7 course tasting menu. While the mocktails were delicious, we were disappointed when each course was either underseasoned or overly salted. The use of sprigs of fresh herbs to mask the imbalance of flavor was noted. Texture imbalance in many dishes was also noted. The overall experience was okay, service was nice, but for the price point we will not be returning.

    We thoroughly enjoyed the planned timing of our late weekday dinner. We almost had the whole restaurant to ourselves which in turn meant a more personalized and attentive service. We had great and insightful conversations with the lovely hostesses and were not rushed. They were very pleasant and start to finish smiles on all of our faces. The cuisine was so authentic, from other parts of Mexico with modern plating and flair. Food was amazing and delicious! We loved the different types of mole! I loved the crispy pork belly that was so tender and juicy in the center. My partner loved the spices in the mole. The fungi birria and green mole quesadilla were different and again delicious! It was great that they described each dish in such detail. Highly recommend them and next time we will try a busy, weekend evening to enjoy a more social setting.

    Can’t say enough about our experience. The food was amazing, and the service just as equal. We did the 7 course menu and our server added on an item we really wanted to try from the 10 course as well. It was my friends birthday and what a lovely and unique way to celebrate! Only downside…we went on a quiet night so not very lively but didn’t take away from our experience. Will visit again! Gracias chef Marco, Lorena and Karla! (I hope I got their names correct!)

    Awesome 6-course tasting menu Delicious & such variety ! And the portions were just right Great value & service outstanding !! We were celebrating our 19th anniversary & the staff went out of their way to treat us with special attention (dimming the lights, romantic music, etc) that we will not soon forget !!! Definitely will be back to enjoy once again the next time we’re in Vallarta 💗

    We have eaten here several times, and have always loved the food and the service. This was the first time that we'd tried the tasting menu, and it was AMAZING. I took my son and his GF, their first time here, and Makal did not disappoint! See you in February!
