The Marquess Tavern is a friendly local gastropub in the heart of Canonbury, Islington. We boast a wide range of beers, ales along side an extensive wine list. Our food menu is reasonably priced packed with pub classics and slow cooked meats.

    Food was decent, but it took ages for the food to arrive. Then it was wrong. The service was poor - not anywhere plan on returning to anytime soon

    We were seated 45 minutes after our booking, had to clear the table of the previous seatings glasses ourselves and when we went to order food we were first told it would be a 20/30 mins which changed to 2 hours. No apology given and 60 minutes wasted. Will not be back.

    Had to wait half an hour for the table we had booked. A couple of the party never got their food till about 15 min after they brought the first meal out. There were items missing on a couple of the roasts that never got resolved Despite the above the food was excellent and the staff were trying their best and were very polite.

    We waited over 1hr 15 mins after ordering our food and asked 2 waiters and we still didn't get our food. When it finally arrived it was cold so we ended up leaving. Very disappointing.

    An hour and 10 mins for starters to arrive. Then another hour and 10 mins for the main courses. My pie was cold. My friend’s roast chicken dinner was a quarter of a chicken for £18.50. It took us 45 mins to flag someone down to finally bring the bill. Only come here if you have all day to spare and don’t mind cold food

    Hi Matt, I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. Waiting over an hour for starters and main courses is frustrating, especially when the food isn't served at the right temperature.     I last ate here around 10 years ago at which point this pub had a great reputation. I'm really not sure what has happened in the time since... We were a party of 3 for Sunday lunch with prior booking. It took 20 minutes and prompting of a waiter to get as far as receiving menus. When food orders were taken there was no wine list. That arrived 10 minutes later, after which there was a further 20 minute wait before I decided to go and order drinks at the bar and bring them over instead. As a sign of how disorganised things were a chef was bussing dishes in and out of the kitchen... 75 minutes after arriving the food was served. Maybe just a bad day? Fair enough if so, and if the food were exceptional or even just ok I could forgive the poor service, but it was just so poor - mealy, frozen roast potatoes, watery cold cabbage, congealed gravy and everything seriously over-seasoned. This was replicated across three different roasts. I don't like to leave negative reviews and sympathise with how hard it is in the restaurant industry at the moment but this experience fell so far short of what could be considered a good experience that I want to write it in the hope that management will read it and look into getting their house in order. Ambience was nice though! 1/5

    Service was shocking, obviously seemed like they had a lot of new staff who had no idea what they were doing. Our meals took over an hour to arrive but they did comp us a free round of drinks for our troubles. There was one manager holding the entire place together. Food was delicious once it arrived. Will be back but hope they have fixed their service issues

    They mentioned they were understaffed but unfortunately, it led to a really poor experience. We were sat 30 mins late, the service was pretty bad and the food came out missing items.

    Due to 2 members of staff walking out the kitchen was backed up and we wait 1hr 45mins for our food which sadly had bits missing. The table staff worked as hard as they could to help and apologised a number of time we was given a discount. Such a shame as this was a family meal to say farewell to my sibling returning to New Zealand after a short visit for a family funeral
